Before SBD from Jan - April I did aerobics 2-3 times a week and walked/bike on the days I didn't do aerobics. I lost 3 lbs in 4 months :cry: I was very unhappy. Then I did the SBD and lost 30 lbs in 3 months! Needless to say, I saw what worked for me very clearly. Nowadays I usually walk about 30 min a day or bike and get out more on the weekends. My whole body could use some toning though and I am considering getting a Y membership soon before the snow flys. I know excersize is important but I am still so shocked that it was my W.O.E. that was keeping the weight on and the excersize did nearly nothing for me in terms of weight loss.
So my question, how much do the S. Beachers here excersize and what results and how fast are you getting them? What works best for torso toning?

I have a question for you though... when you were exercising and weren't on the beach, how were you eating? Were you "dieting" at all? Watching what you eat?
For me, eating healthy foods (beachy) coupled with exercising 5-6 days/week keeps me maintaining/losing. I just posted a really good article on diet and exercise in the exercise forum... might be a good read for ya. ;)
I wouldn't ever want to JUST eat on the beach or JUST exercise. Exercise has so many wonderful benefits - but if you eat crap, you're not exactly helping yourself. And if you ONLY eat healthy foods... you're missing out on good cardiovascular health, muscular strength, flexibility, etc.
I think one needs a good combination of both. If you throw yourself into both of them wholeheartedly... I believe most people see awesome results. :D |

| One day of rest. Otherwise, busting my *ss. Some days are just endless exercise? I ran with the dog this morning. Biked to work as my car was in the shop and I didn't want to bother wife for a ride. Went home and walked the dog at lunch. Bike race tonight after work. Resistance when my son goes to bed tonight. How much is that? |

wow oldpjams you are in shape it sound like! Very motivated at the least.
pookiebear that is good advice. When I was in aroebics I ate a lot of cheap frozen pizza and not many veggie. I didn't understand why I was not losing weight becuz all my life I ate like I did and stayed around 130, I was at 160 then and confused as to why when I step up my excersizing the weight still stuck to me. After having my son I could'nt shake of the extra pounds till I started eating SB style.
I was a lazy eater before the beach, hot pockets, frozen pizza, some juice, a couple beers a night, potatoes at lunch....I thought I was sort of healthy :lol: now I see I was headed for type 2 diabetes! Thanks to the SBD I lost the weight.
I am not into working out at a gym so it will take more determination than the Beach to stick with it. Once I see some muscle tone I will be more encouraged. Working out alone is hard, I have no one to work out with :cry: |

i shoot for cardio 6 days a week... most weeks i get 4-6....
i should be doing resistance but i'm not really ready. I'm happy i'm moving at all to be honest. |

I don't work out with anyone either. And I don't go to the gym. I have an eliptical at my house... do Pilates DVD's... Tae Bo DVD's... walk/run outside... and have some 3 lb. weights that I use as well. You don't have to go to a gym to exercise. Think of the things you like do to and most of all - stay active, like our little turtle. ;) Do you have a dog to walk? Sport you want to get involved in? Be creative... because then, you'll be able to keep with it. ;) |

I work out alone too...most of the time. DH does go walking with me and I do take yoga classes. I am on my own otherwise. I don't go to the gym and feel that you don't need to. Just about everything that you can do at a gym (weight wise) can be adapted to do at home. I prefer to work out at home. For strength I have some dumbbells, resistance bands, a stability ball, and recently got a bun & thigh rocker for free from my local freecycle board. I use webistes like the one in Pooks sig and Sparkpeople to give me ideas of exercises to do for strength training. I love dvd's too - they can be great to break up the routine and do something new and different!
I have been doing cardio and strength just about every day for the last 2 weeks. I just felt like it was time to kick it up a notch for me. I honestly give credit to the strength training and yoga for all the great changes my body has made already. |

I work out alone most of the time, but i'm now training for a 1/2 marathon with a friend, so i run 3x a week, and do x-training 2x a week (elliptical or video and weights). I just recently got fed up with working out at home, so now i'm back at the gym, I get cyclical that way, but can defintely see where my motivation is...sometimes its a chore to go to the gym, so i'd rarther workout at home, was like that all summer, but now i'd rather go home and sit, so if i make myself drive tot he gym, i will do my workout, eventually i'm sure i'll go back to w/o at home. but until its too dark to run after work, i'm outside doing that by myself, except on saturdays, where i run my long run with my friend.

It is! I got crushed tonight at the race! I'm SLOW. I shouldn't be! I think it's the suffering factor. I haven't resigned myself to really suffering. I finish and 15 minutes later I feel fine and think "that wasn't so bad." Gotta go harder.
Seriously, I don't think exercise should be a chore. It's all about doing fun things that don't seem like exercise at all. I admit that resistance tonight will be a chore, but it usually isn't. |

Yep. It ain't that different from being a newbie. The only difference is that we actually really know we're not putting anything even close to our all into it. |

That is good advice~ there were many more gems of good advice from others too, thank you 8)
I prefer getting out of the house & to the gym when winter hits us. With a 2 yr old it would be more of a chore to work out at home. Usually I walk or bike with him when I get home from work. I think I will keep that up plus get a Y membership & lift weights a few times a week.
Yoga only has caused me pain. I have one video tape that is gentle enough but I took a class once and I had unending pain afterwards. They had the room at 90 degrees (no lie!) and it was so crowded and they made you contort you body in so many odd ways. It was definately for the people who were advanced & not beginners. I think I'll stick to stretching :wink: |

Oh my! I hope you realize that there are many, many, many different types of yoga. Don't rule it out because you had one bad experience. Check out this link for a description of some of the varying types:

Above all else look for a GOOD yoga studio. Go there and talk to them before you take a class. Tell them about the above expereience so that they know this is NOT something you would want to do again. Ask for their advice as to what class to try. There are really great classes out there for everyone, the above just wasn't for you. |
