Who are SBD specialists?

When people post questions, there are a number of people who respond. That's the purpose of the forum.

Some of us are looking for facts, not just empathy or somebody who knows the terminology and can shoot pretty convincingly from the hip.

In most cases, those are interesting to read, but after looking through 100's of postings, I have yet to determine who are the SBD personnel (which I assume have "more" correct answers). Perhaps it is so obvious that I am missing it!!

Nope. No "official" SBD personnel here. If you want official SB dieticians for advice you can join the paid site endorsed by Dr. Agatston at www.southbeachdiet.com .

However, there are some very knowledgeable people here in terms of both biochemical processes and food contents and how they affect the body. There are also some very knowledgeable people about different forms of exercise and exercise physiology in general. There are also a number of people who have adopted this as healthy eating lifestyle for a number of years and have been through the process and can offer their own opinions based on a positive and successful experience. There is also some amount of misinformation and opinion. Such is the nature of an internet message board. There are also some areas, like the safety and health affects of various alternative sweeteners (Both artificial and natural), where the "facts" are simply unclear and it boils down to largely what you choose to believe. But things like the food lists and the meal templates and such in the FAQs are pretty much in synch with the paid site.

I think most reasonable people do their own research to a certain extent and come to find which posters here are generally trustworthy with the info they present. That's likely about the best you can do in terms of getting "the facts".

Weight loss requires some sort of mix of:

- affirmation
- information
- inspiration
- motivation

I think this is a good board and know other ones suffer from much worse sole focus on affirmation ("Oh, that's OK, we all binge" responses) and even worse information coming from the "untransformed."

Anyhow, sometimes I might be a little too direct and end up having to apologize from time to time.

I guess I just try to do my little part in keeping the above aspects in balance.

I guess a "let's all try to feel good about being fat, let's all share unsubstantial and unsubstantiated information, and let's all pretend we're on a diet" site just isn't for me.
