I am not a big fan of any kind of lettuce for my salad. I always use spinach instead. I am fortunate not to have gotten E. Coli :) For now I am using Boston Bib lettuce till it is safe to eat spinach again.
Just curious, how has the E.Coli scare and ban on spiniach changed others eating habits? |

| I really am at a loss as to what I am going to choose. Up here in Boston they have also taken away all the other bagged salads. I guess I am going to have to start cooking some veggies. |

| I prefer spinach in my eggs now for breakfast, but I just cram a WHOLE LOT of mushrooms & GREEN PEPPERS in them now. For my salads, I just use hearts of romaine or iceberg. A couple of times, I made a rainbow salad with splenda in the drsg. I live in Alabama, and though it is not one of the states named with the E-coli problem, they market has still taken it off the shelves. I'll be fine. More opportunity to expirement with other veggies  |

| We were at Macaroni Grill for dinner for my daughter's birthday. They are subbing in arugula it seems in most dishes that had spinach previously. |

| Heard something on the news today that even fresh spinach was at risk now . .. . I love spinach steamed, raw, sauteed, etc. Haven't changed my eating too much though. Just turn to another vegetable if I can't have another :) |

| I wish this spinach ban would lift soon. I wonder how long it will go on for. Boston Bib lettuce is my favorite but I am getting tired of lettuce salads....sigh...better than eating E. Coli but still :? Does anyone know when this ordeal is predicted to end? |

| It's hard seeing my local salad bar being just romaine and iceburg blends. I love a salad heavy on the spinach, light on lettuces, but I'm making do. I hope they get the spinach situation under control and resolved soon so I can go back to gorging on it. |

I am eating romaine.
What really bothered me was reading online today that the farmers hadbeen warned about possible contaminated irrigation water LAST SPRING. Soinach does not take long to grow. I have trouble getting it to grow in a cool climate except spring and fall ( I am about to put some in this week for fall/I cover it when we hit freezes. Even grows great in cold frames.) How on earth does so much grow in the heat of CA?
The article is on the MSN homepage from IE. |

| I don't eat cooked veg so I'm hurting without my spinach. I use it in my smoothie every morning (alonge with strawberries and banana) to pump up my potassium(its too low). And I mix it with my lettuce, it also goes in soups, burger dishes (meatloaf, meatballs, sometimes burgers) and other dishes. Many days I was getting spinach at all three meals. I had to dump 4 pounds of fresh spinach :x |

wow that sounds gross, what does it taste like?
ps I wonder how many spinach farmers are going out of business over this? I betcha the cost of spinach will go way up for them to compensate their losses :( |

Actually its a very popular smoothie on this board. Because fresh spinach has a very mild taste all you taste in the smoothie is the bananas and strawberries. It was a great way for non veggie eaters to get a serious serving of veggies in without acutally tasting them and for me to get a real good dose of potassium  |

We are still buying spinach. I get it at the farmers market from local organic farms in Washington state. Since all the affected spinach seems to be from California, we've decided to trust the local produce. |
