Where are you cyclechic?????? have not seen you post lately. Are there any other triathletes out there???

I did the triathlon March 17th. It went really well! It was a pretty chilly morning, but the water temp was 75...so I elected not to were the wet suit. The swim was longer than I had originally thought.... a little over 1/2 mile, but I warmed up very quickly and was glad I didn't have to deal with the wet suit. My transition from swim to bike was terrible....had to run a long distance from the lake to the transition area and was shaking trying to get my socks and shoes on....I didn't wear socks on my first triathlon, but thought I would try them this time. I fumbled with everything I had to put on. I still really enjoyed it and was very happy with how I did. I am starting to find these sprint tri's more fun than my running races. There is so much going on, you have to really think the whole time. Also, most of the really fast runners can't swim and bike as well as they run. I am already planning for my next one.....tri season has just started here.

would love to hear more transition tips!!!

I am still around! I've been working a second job so haven't had much extra time to run or post.

Way to go on the first tri of the season! I too think tri's would be so much more interesting then single event races

My running has gone by the wayside since starting job #2 I have been hoping to just maintain. And that isn't going so good.

I went skiing a couple of weeks ago and have been doing spinning class consistently.

Got outside for the first bike ride of the season - it was GREAT ! ! ! the wind was cold and strong (we decided to cut out the last 2 mile loop because the wind was blowing us sideways) I just rode my mtn bike w/ a friend but we managed to get about 12 miles in. Hopefully will get my road bike out tomorrow.

I don't know if I reported on the biathlon I did part of in Feb. I just did the 500 yard swim portion. It was A LOT harder than I thought. there were 3 people in my lane 1 fast (High school swim team kid) 1 medium - (me)and one slow (another kid) at time all three of us would end up in the same place. Having the water so choppy was an experience too. I usually can do 500 in 10 minutes w/o pushing but it took me 11 that day. I didn't even attempt any flip turns w/ that many people at different speeds in the same lane.

I noticed too the good runners weren't very good swimmers. One gal I know is a marathoner. she got in about 5 min before my partner but then I passed her on the swim portion (credit given to her - she had just ran 5 miles in 30 degree weather)

I got a cramp in my left leg on the first lap but I have been working on swimming through cramps. It was better by the fourth lap but then hurt for 3 days!

I need to learn how to warm up for swimming - when racing we swam warm up laps but w/ a tri in open water I am sure the warm up is very different

I was losing motivation but now hearing about you doing it has gotten me pumped again - I still HATE to run but will start getting back at it.

One good development is my breathing. My dr changed my asthma meds so that should help my HR and I found I am allergic to wheat. I now have tried to stay 100% wheat free (about 97% in reality.) I am noticing a difference in my muscles and my breathing. Hopefully that will transfer to better endurance in the swimming biking and running.

I will keep reading these so keep posting - I LOVE hearing about everyone's tri victories

BTW - I have no transition hints - I have never done a tri
I don't wear socks inside my road bike shoes ever so will be putting them on when I put on my running shoes. I will just be the low sock and they are a lot easier to put on then ankle height.

I would like to get a pair of speed laces not just for how fast the are to tighten but more because my shoe laces always come undone even if I double bow them.

Do you wear a regular tri suit? I don't know yet what I will wear. I may break down and get a tri top and shorts. the tri top I can wear for regular summer cycling. I hate being wet so I want something that is going to dry fast.

anyway once again I will keep in touch :)

It has been a while since I've looked at these boards...

Running kept my out of tris for most of the summer - but I did do the one sprint I've done for the last 5 years or so. Finally made the podium - 2nd by 7 seconds :) All the _good_ people didn't show this year :) Spent most of the season on my bike and had a good season - my climbing really improved this year. As much as we don't want to hear it, hills are really good for you! Hoping to get back into running this fall - maybe try a half marathon in the winter if my piriformis holds up on me.

Recently got into indoor rock climbing as a x-training... so much fun.

How was your season?

Just checking to see if anyone is competing in tri's right now. It is the season, so there is one almost every weekend. has anyone noticed the triathalon explosion and how popular they have become in the last couple years!!!!???

I had a wild experience at my last triathlon I just did at marineland, Fl. a couple weeks ago. It was just a small local grass roots kinda race.

Anyway.....about 30 seconds before the first swim wave (in the ocean) A lifeguard was in a zodiac boat and hit a wave and flew out of the boat (he should have been wearing a kill switch cord) anyway, he was ok, but the boat was spinning out of control in the swim area so we couldn't start. One of the athletes decided to be a hero and try to jump into the boat and pull back the throttle......he did it, but he also had to be pulled in by the lifeguards because he got cut up by the boat propeller. He was cut on both legs, ribs and arm. One of the leg cuts to the bone. The race was delayed over an hour. Luckily he is ok but had to spend the night in the hospital. I still can't believe he even tried to do it. We were all watching from the shore not believeing what he was attempting.
I think he was crazy since no one was in danger. You should not put your life in danger unless you are tying to save someone! When it did finally start, it made for a fast swim since I was afraid that his blood might have brought in sharks

Anyone out there competing? I want to hear about some races!
