how many carbs are you allowed on phase one. I like this lifestyle change so far and i am losing weight but when people ask me what i am doing and how many carbs you are allowed to eat. I tell them I am not really sure and they should read the book. I am having less than 20. is that good or should be even less than that

Hi Shelly. The good news is that you don't have to count carbs on SBD. The whole point is to teach you the difference between good carbs (veggies, fruits, whole wheat) and bad carbs (white bread, beer, refined sugar) so that you can adapt your eating style. Phase 1 is basically "detox" so you can't really even have the good carbs (execpt veggies & legumes) until you get over your carb cravings. Check out the foods to enjoy and foods to avoid pages in the book - those should help. You don't really have to count anything - that is what makes this diet easier to follow than a lot of others. I know it seems weird at first, but stick with it! Good luck!

If you're counting and eating less than 20 g of carbs each day, you need to change your way of thinking about SB, because you're not getting enough good carbs.

Phase 1 should have more like 40-50 g of net carbs each day. I'd suggest counting for a few more days until you get a better idea of what that higher level of carbs is like. Once you know what that feels like, stop counting! Like Allihoo said, SB isn't about counting.

Add more veggies, eat some beans, drink your V8 or tomato juice, and have some fat-free plain yogurt sweetened with Splenda and ¼ tsp flavored extract (like vanilla).
