I would like to do this diet. Just wondering if anyone else there is an emotional eater? Do you have any advice on how to combat emotional eating on this diet? Also, I run pretty aggresively. I'm the type of person who needs to eat something no more than one half hour before my workout. Can you get thru an aggressive workout on this diet? What snacks work the best for getting you thru an aggressive workout? Thanks! :?

Phase 1 is not very conducive to aggressive workouts. My running intensity plummeted during Phase 1, and returned to normal or better after starting Phase 2. If you work out hard, you might just want to start at Phase 2.

I sometimes eat a Zone bar before I do a longer run. If I am just doing intervals, I don't have an energy snack beforehand. A banana is good for quick energy too, for those who workout.

KennyD dealt with the second part of your question, I'll try to deal with the first. I was an emotional eater before I went on SBD. I was always reaching for something crunchy, or ice cream when stressed before SBD. I found that the foods I was eating increased these desires, and once I 'cleaned' up my diet by removing the foods that caused extreme hunger, the need to cruch disappeared, too. The ice cream desire is still there, but not as bad. I found from being on SBD that I can't eat dairy at all, so even tho I still want ice cream, I know I can't eat it, and the need for it is slowly going away, too. Lots of people say you have to deal with the emotions first, but I think you have to deal with the food problems first, and many of the emotional ones will disappear, too.
Good luck,

I am on P1 d7, and I have definitely found that I am not able to workout like I could before. We have a fitness center where I work, and I used to be able to go through the 18 minute circuit twice. Now I'm exhausted after the first time through and cannot even force myself to go through a second time. I am hoping that this will change next week when I start P2. I have worked out every day and have lost about 4 lbs of the 15 I want to lose in the first week.

HA! I am probably the biggest emotional eater in the world! It's certainly hard, but I think its a process. You have to train your brain to eat when you are hungry, not when you are bored, or for comfort if you are feeling lonely/depressed/angry etc. Its hard for me sometimes because I am prone to depression. But I also know that being overweight makes me more unhappy.

My Aunt has had that gastric bypass surgery, and she has experienced a tremendous weight loss, but she still struggles with emotional eating as well. One thing that might help. If you are sitting around relaxing, watching tv, whatnot, keep your hands busy. My aunt has picked up crocheting blankets, she works on it whenever she watches tv, or has some free time. It gives her hands something to do, so she doesn't feel the need to have her hand in a potato chip bag. She has a friend who has a shop who sells them, so its also a way to make a few bucks.

It's just a learning process. Substitution is the key, find some other outlet for your emotions. This place is a good place to start. We are all here for you. :)
