| You probably know what I am talking about. "French" people do not get fat, gain weight, need to diet etc. I AM FRENCH!!!!!! My maiden name is Pierce for goodness sakes!! I have been raised in a french household my whole dang life!! Oh! I forgot! I am FAT!!!! Yes, kids, I like cheese, and wine. And she is right, you can only eat/drink them in moderation. But that is because their flavors are so strong! For example...how many people do you know that could chew on a chicken bouillion cube?? Right. One lick is good...but the whole thing???!!! I don't care what this woman wants to sell...french women are FAT just like every other one of us! I just had to vent, because I saw this very issue as an "Ads by Goooooogle" on this site. Sorry, but it is bulls**t. And I am freaking french. I kind of know. |

| I think the French People Don't Get Fat is designated towards the people who live in France - smaller portions, savouring food and whatnot are (seemingly) the ordeal. People make food and meals an event, not just for eating. |

IMO the whole French Women Don't get Fat phenomenon is not only to sell her novel but to also raise profits for the Veuve Clicquot Champagne. Very expensive, and being a diuretic, I hate to see my money go down the drain.
Like Lorka said, it discusses basic eating principles, like portion sizes, etc. I think that this, plus the romanticism of France seems to be effective to popularize this whole idea. |

FWIW, Veuve Clicquot champagne remains one of my favorite "true" champagnes for very special occasions.

I so agree on this one April26. This is a great marketing deal to sell her book. I'm Norwegian but have lived several years in France. And let me tell you, French women DO get fat. And they only get fatter and fatter.
However, there ARE French women that are the way we imagine them; petite and very thin. But they do not eat much. I've seen them have 3 salad leaves for lunch... I have yet to know any Frenchie that eats a lot of cheese and croissants and still keep the weight down...
And they DO obsess much more than Scandinavians about they're weight...
And let me add something: the gym classes in France are the best, really fatkillers :P |

French fries.
French toast.
French salad dressing.
And then we also have French military victories...

I got this book also. I thought it sounded intriguing.
She does have some good advice for adding wine to the
diet. I did and found it was an appetite stimulator for me.
Dinner with some red wine just made me want to eat and
eat (and I usually just have that problem only with sweets).
She has some tips of interest, but it was not a program that
made any dent on my weight. |
