| Hello- I have been on Phase I for 3 weeks (I know a little longer than recommended). I have definitely been following the diet diligently, I drink a ton of water, and I exercise at least 5x a week. I lost about 4 lbs the first week, which was great. But I weighed myself this morning.... and I'm UP A POUND. WHAT THE !@#$? I feel like crying- this 3rd week has really been torture on my body. And it was all for NOTHING. I don't understand what I could possibly be doing wrong that you other people are doing right. I'm supposed to be moving on to phase II starting TODAY, but I'm so mad that I don't know if I want to go on. Do you think this diet just isn't for me? Or should I keep busting my butt and risk another disappointment? Please help. |

Depends on a lot of things, such as: what sort of diet or eating "plan" were you following before starting SBD? If you were eating healthy prior, you may not see the larger losses. If you were on a very restricted diet prior, you may also not see large losses. Also, a lot depends on how much you need to lose (need, not want.....). Those folks starting out closer to a healthy weight will lose much slower. Have you really increased your exercise/activity since starting SBD? You could be adding muscle. Are you looking at other parameters of success, such as inches lost/toning/improvements in labwork/general improvements in overall nutrition? SBD, in my opinion, wasn't designed to be a diet one jumps on to lose weight and then gets back to "regular" eating--which presumably is what gets one here in the first place. Weight loss to reach a healthy weight for one's body IS a goal, but only one. A lifetime of improved nutrition, leading to better health is the ultimate goal, to me.
I have recently hit a plateau after losing 34 lbs. So far, this plateau has lasted 4 weeks. Despite the lack of weight loss, my size continues to change, and I am now wearing clothes that I couldn't comfortably wear 4 weeks ago. My exercise tolerance continues to improve and I feel better.
Also, remember that weight fluctuates, and scales vary in their readings, as well.
All the best! |

A few things could affect it:
1) How much do you want to lose? It's easier to lose when you have 25 lbs or more to get rid of. Less than that and you'll have slower results.
2) If you're female, are you due for your period in the next week or so?
3) Is this workout more than you did before you started SBD? You could be adding muscle as you lose fat.
4) How similar is SBD to what you ate before? Those who were carbaholics are lived on rice and potatoes will lose weight faster.
So, I suggest you stop worrying about your weight right now and start measuring yourself once a week. I'm really thinking that reason number 3 might be your situation. |

| Great advice in the previous two posts. I'd like to add that you should move on to phase 2. Your body may be telling you that it needs more variety. |

Thank you guys for your advice. I have been having lots of menstrual irregularities, and I read similar posts about that... getting a period every 2 weeks isn't very fun. And no I haven't measured myself at all. I can tell a slight difference in my clothes, but nothing too noticable. Ezaldere, your point about needing to lose 25+ made sense. I only need to lose about 15-20 so that may be why.
Fishplate, you also had a point- I ate fairly healthy before I started the diet, so that may be another reason.
Today on my first Phase 2 day, I added 1/2 c of Fiber One with milk at breakfast, and a whole wheat tortilla at lunch and I feel better already. I was a bit tired at one point, but I think that's because I hadn't had any caffiene yet... That is next on the "To Give Up" list. Thanks all! |
