Hi, I thought maybe starting here would be the best since I have failed on my own. I'm 33, 2 daughters 5 and 3. I need to lose about 45 lbs to be at a healthy weight. Since the birth of my last daughter I have struggled with my thyroid. Levels were 24.83 when I started on meds they are now down to 1.74 without medication. My Cholesterol is 291 triglycerides are 309, LDL is 183, and HDL is 46. Ratio is 6.4 Strong family history of heart disease, both parents had heart attacks at 52, (still living, thank goodness) I have always been around 115 before pregnancies, now around 163. I don't understand why I wan't it so bad and can't seem to follow through. I'm probably sounding as if I'm a Wacko, LOL. I just can't seem to get past the food addiction. I don't snack all day, my portions are definately to big, but not out of control. I start to change my way of eating then get really mad about it. I feel like I'm being childish. Have you ever been there?? When this happens I just tell my self to stop the process because with this attitude I'm sure to fail. Just looking for some serious ADVICE!
Thanks so much,
Gina |

tabkpb, you're not alone. Lots of people starting SBD are doing so for health reasons as much as anything else. Your numbers (cholesterol, etc.) indicate your body really needs you to take care of it right now.
SBD is a great program, and it's effective. You WILL lose weight, and you WILL be healthier. I started the day after Valentine's Day, and my husband just sort of fell into it because he just eats what I fix. He has lost 30 pounds in 2 months; I've lost 15. We're both very pleased with the results so far. I don't care how fast I lose the weight--I just know that as long as I eat the allowed foods the weight keeps coming off. I have splurged with a piece of cake on a couple of family birthdays, and enjoyed the heck out of it, then just kept on the program afterward.
You must be really busy and have a lot of demands on your time & energy with two little girls. You deserve to feel good, both physically and emotionally. It's okay to feel crabby and cheated some of the time, then it's time to pick yourself up and take REALLY good care of yourself by taking care of your diet & health. Do you think that knowing you're taking good care of yourself and feeling better might deliver better warm fuzzies than the comfort foods that you're probably missing?
I hope this helps a little bit. Definitely keep checking out the boards--they kept me highly motivated through Phase 1. Find some things that you really like to cook and eat that fit in with the plan. Don't starve. Be good to yourself. |
