Drive Through hell!

Do any of you have that one friend that seems to put you through hell. For instance this morning we are at lunch and she comes over with 2 peanut butter chocolate brownies, and says "you can eat the peanut butter" then she takes me through a McDonalds drive thru. I was able to fight the brownie, but I got a sundae! just plain vanilla, is that really bad?

Yes, it's bad but you got to forgive yourself for cheating. :) The sundae contains alot of sugar. Next time just tell you're friend that if she truly cares about you not to bring those things around you when you are dieting. We all have friends that sabotage our diets unintentionally. :(

 And sometime 'intentionally' unfortunately. Just give them a knowing look that says, "Come on.....get real"

My roomate is like that too!

Instead of encouraging me to stick to my diet when I'm craving something bad (like whatever she's eating! I swear, she can eat whatever she wants and not gain an ounce. Don't ya hate people like that? lol), she offers to share her food with me. And she filled up a bowl with candy (and not the sugar-free kind, of course!) and set it on top of the VCR. A few days later I finally decided to just move it to her room. Glad I did! Its not out where I can see it to tempt me anymore!

Ok, this is only my opinion...

I think that if one is to view the SBD as more of a lifestyle change rather than just a diet, then you have to get used to the temptations of certain foods. We must remember that not everybody is doing the SBD and we cannot hold that against them or criticize them for their decision. You cannot go through life requesting that others around you not eat certain things in your presence. Instead, you must be stronger than the temptations. I think it's best to just learn to deal with it. It was my understanding that SBD was intended to end cravings for the "bad" foods (if there is such a thing) and change your way of eating to help you do just that!

And don't dwell on a little slip up. We are human. There is no reason to stick to the plan so religiously that you can't enjoy a little treat every now and then. You deserve it. When you do treat yourself to that little something special, indulge, savor, and enjoy every minute of it knowing that those moments don't come very often, so you shouldn't feel guilty about it. After it's over, just pick right back up where you left off.

Smiles4ever,

Good advice. It's pretty normal when dieting to want to make sure everyone in our lives knows we are doing it...in a way, it helps motivate because we don't want to tell everyone about it and then fail. But, I agree with you that we shouldn't expect others to alter their own behaviour around us. They shouldn't purposely tempt us, of course, but they should be able to have their normal routine and food around the house as they always have. Any "collatoral" temptation is our problem to deal with, because as you say...this is life!

When my friends offer me things I can't have I think it's funny. I always say "Are you CRAZY??? I can't have that!!" It makes it a joke because they laugh then I forget to want what they offered.
