I am from Louisville, and we are having the first Derby event tomorrow called Thunder. It is a huge all day air show and then fireworks over the river at dark. Truly an all day event. My dilemna is that I will only be on day 6 of P1 and there will be so many temptations, tons of snacks, food vendors, and plenty of alcohol. What is a girl to do?? Any suggestions to help me avoid slipping?

If you can find a vendor that sells a nice cesear salad with regular dressing, I would definately go for that (without the crutons). I had the same type of dilemma with 3 b-day parties in one week and just decided to steer clear of everything not SB legal. Stick with the diet soda or just water and find a distraction....something to keep your mouth busy such as sugar free bubble gum. You can of course have about 20 peanuts that you can portion out, or any sugar free candy.

I brought food with me everywhere I went during ph 1. I still do it now in ph 3 sometimes. It sucks to watch someone woof down a corn dog and cotton candy, but it’s even harder if you’re hungry.
Snack all day long. Sneak it in if you have to. Drink tons of water/diet soda/whatever you like. Keep your hands and your mouth busy and you’ll be fine! Sometimes for situations like this I’d treat myself to something “kind of legal.” For example, guzzle diet coke all day and give yourself a big caffeine buzz. It won’t hurt you much in the long run, but then you’ll feel like you got a treat too. |

In addition to the excellent suggestions, you might also consider just eating the protein portions of vendor foods -- the patty in a burger, the hot dog, etc. -- and throw away the carb heavy stuff!!
GOOD LUCK!! |

| Festival food suggestions: steak or chicken on a stick; burgers minus the bun; maybe someone will be selling roasted nuts (none of the sugar-coated ones, though). Drink WATER, resist the urge to have a beer (you can do it!). Sounds like a fun event! Hope you have a really good time! |
