Well I finished my first day on the SBD. I did ok, considering I usually eat whatever I crave amd drink at least 2-16oz cokes a day. I am a little concerned with everyone saying they are getting a "sick" feeling the first few weeks? I don't really feel sick, but this afternoon killed me. I was SO tempted to cheat, I went to a movie and people were just eating popcorn and drinking soda. I couldn't even enjoy the movie I was SO hungry. For dinner, I ate Rosemary Chicken and a little bit of cesar salad w/iced tea. (nutri-sweetened that is.) I feel kinda gross, like I ate too much chicken, but hopefully that will pass. I also ate 3 strips of bacon this morning...is that allowed? It seems ranch dressing is OK..which is what I had on my salad at lunch w/some pre-cooked shrimp. Also, they make some sugar-free fudgecicles that are acutally pretty good. Overall, I think I did ok...But honestly, I am so NOT looking forward to a day with more meat....I'll do it because i MUST lose weight, but it's hard.

Don't go hungry TX. Its important to eat till you are full ( not gorging yourself) and to eat all your snacks. I agree, going to a movie would have been tough. Perhaps next time you could take some pistachio nuts and a carbonated flavored water ( sugar free). Good luck and keep going. Oh...and I never really felt sick just had some mild headaches from sugar withdrawal. I posted everyday in my journal for my first 2 week period. It really helped me stay focused and other dieters comments were very motivating. Look under the journal forum here and see what you think.

I am on day 3 of the diet, I had not read until your posting that people have been feeling sick....but I have been, I had to force down breakfast yesterday....bacon is not allowed, just canadian, its not Atkins remember! I also had to pee every half hour yesterday! It was so annoying, that is why I am on these postings to see if anyone else had this diuretic (sp?) effect....I think this will work with some willpower!

And TXgirl...eat about 3/4 of your plate with salad and veggies and 1/4 meat. You may enjoy that ratio much more. Also, if your ranch contains whole milk or buttermilk thats a no-no. Like Shockwoman said, regular bacon is not allowed. I use turkey bacon. Its good

1. Like it was mentioned before, bring your own nuts to the movie and buy a big serving of Diet Coke. You MUST stop drinking regular soda forever. Trust me, soon you won't ever go back to regular, it's way too sweet.
2. Don't know about feeling sick, however, your body goes throw a considerable adjustment when it comes to cleasing itself of the carbs. Some people feel nothing, some get headaches, some get a sick feeling, some get a nice ketosis buzz. It ALWAYS passes after a few days.
3. Relax. Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride. Don't stress so much about one piece of bacon and whether or not you're following the plan to the letter. Read the book, go over certain segments a couple of times. Read articles about the diet, not just here, but elsewhere on the web (MebMD.com, etc).
4. I can tell you right now that you won't succeed in this diet with the way you're going now. You have to settle down and get ready for the long haul. Changing your lifestyle. REALLY educating yourself on what needs to be done and why veres a half-ass 'sorta/kinda' way of thinking. Jump in with both feet.
Good luck

In the beginning you WILL lose water -it's normal. How much depends on how fat you are. It also accounts for the large numbers of lost poundage the first 2 weeks. There's just no way a human can lose 13 pounds of fat in two weeks. Sorry I can't point you to the math right now, but the most fat you can lose a week is roughly 3-4 pounds, and that's a stretch. Unfortunately you also are losing some muscle when you go on a calorie restriction diet. That's why people get so depressed after the initial phase when their weightloss slows down. They all start complaining in week 4 and 5 that they are stuck. No - this is when the real fatloss phase begins, and fat can only come off slowly. Three pounds at most is safe or you lose muscle.
Although you DO want that water weight off (it is not healthy and it can be dangerous), do NOT try to dehydrate yourself - that will defeat the purpose and will impair liver function. You need your liver working at optimum, so the heavier you are, the more water you need. Skinny minnies can get by on 6 glasses a day, but obese people need up to a gallon of water. You will actually lose weight faster. Make friends with your toilet - it is your friend! Except when I broke the seat at my sister's house... |

Regarding feeling sick on phase 1: the body is "detoxing" from all the sugar and carbs. According to information I've read in the past (sources other than SBD, but apparently complementary with it), it takes about 4 days, each day worse than the one before, and can include things such as headaches, intestinal "ailments," and a general "feeling run over by a truck" malaise. It ain't pretty, but it passes.

The "SB Flu" affects us all differently. If you had a very high carb diet before, you will feel the effects a little harder. I had a relatively good diet prior to SB, so I spent about 1/2 day feeling "not quite right". It was worth it.

Just an observation...the post you are replying to is over 1 year old!! If the person is still on SB, they are probably way past P1... Don't know if that matters...but thought I'd mention it...
