Hi, i wanted to share another diet that i started early last year.(and have continued for the most part) It is called the "Abs Diet". In the first six weeks of it i lost 14 pounds of fat and gained 13 pounds of muscle. My body fat percentage went down 10 percent!! The abs diet is basically not a diet but a new way of eatting, very similar to south beach, phase 3. You eat healthy for life: lots of fresh veggies, fruit, lean meats, lowfat dairy, whole grains, nuts etc. etc.
if anyone wants some more info i would be happy to share!!

| i had a very thorough fat analysis test done before i started and one done after six weeks. after the six weeks i dropped 10 percent of body fat. i was someone who ate what they wanted when they wanted and completely changed the way i ate. i did hit a plateau shortly after, i didn't continue to drop that steadily. |

diet schmiet.
the term diet is overrated - they are all essentially based on the same thing.
healthy eating + exercise = healthy life. and you'll lose weight. and you'll gain musicle. it's how they all work. |

unfortunately, this very simple concept is far too complex for the majority of people.
which is why most "diets" do NOT work that way - because most people can't hack it on their own, and "the hard way" doesn't sell. |

yeah it is unfortunate.
people are lazy in their mindset. don't want to think. want the thinking done for them. |

not only that, but i'm really starting to realise that the vast majority of people [americans, anyway] have NO idea about proper nutrition, healthful eating, and exercise. i look at my own boyfriend and ALL those concepts are totally lost on him, because he's never had a single bit of education about them.
in that regard, kind of hard to put it all together if you've no prior understanding. it seems so obvious to us, but to most people that's not the case. |

ok,
i said in the beginning it is not really a diet but changing the way you eat. it is about eatting healthy. i am not lazy in my mindset and i know it is about proper nutrition. it caused me to change the way i eat. it is possible to loose fat and gain muscle you cannot turn fat into muscle. i was not posting this to get criticism. i thought this site was for supporting others not bringing them down. if you don't want to believe me that is your right but you do not have to criticize me. i have the evidence not only on paper but in the size 8 clothes i now wear. |

i don't think we were talking about you in particular. sounds like whatever you've done has worked well for you, despite the common understanding that it's very difficult and rare to build lean body mass WHILE losing body fat ... they sort of happen at alternate times, but not simultaneously.
i think lorka's/my commentary was in regard to people in general. good for you for being able to just eat healthy and exercise and see results ... unfortunately, most people aren't capable of doing that. they need gimmicks and elaborate schemes. |

| i'm iffy on the bffm stuff, but it's hard for me to wrap my head around the concept of adding 2lbs of lean muscle a week. a gallon of water is 8lbs. adding that much lean muscle is quite a feat. in 4 weeks it's super human, ATMO, and you did it twice. |

| yeah, relax. it was a generalization to society. i didn't write anything indicating i was discussing your clearly healthy lifestyle. |

I have read (and attempted) the Abs Diet. Now if there was ever a book in need of an editor lol.
The Diet is very similar to South Beach
1) Lots of whole grains, vegetables, fruit, lean protein, natural peanut butter, etc
2) Premise is 3 meals and 3 snacks (one snack being more of a dessert)
3) Protein and good carb at each meal/snack
4) Avoid Trans Fat and High Fructose Corn Syrup
Differences
1) No phase 1 to kill cravings (which I personally need)
2) You get one cheat meal a weak (which also did me in)
3) No limitations on what fruits and vegetables you can eat (except maybe corn and peas and potatoes but I don't recall them being mentioned at all)
Other
1) Advocates several bean based meals a week
2) Advocates using Whey Protein Shakes several times a week
3) Has a exercise component.
The exercise side looks great.
1) 3 days of weights - total body circuit training with one session having some extra focus on legs
2) Twice a week ab workout (to be done before strength)
3) Cardiovascular mostly optional but does advocate at least one interval training session and the others can be light walking
4) One day of no exercise to rest body.
I mostly have trouble wrapping my head around doing abs only twice a week.
Overall, I think the Abs diet would make a good "phase 3" diet. I think the exercise part can be done right along with South Beach. |
