Hi
I heard about this on the news the other night. I was curious as well but I haven't bought the book.
Some things I have heard in comparing SBD to Reality Diet:
From what I've heard, the Reality Diet is kind of a modified South Beach--like you said, emphasizing high fiber carbs. but also reducing the protein intake. Yikes, NOT like South Beach then....more a typical "diet"? Like weight watchers I guess. Lower fat as well as high fiber. Won't fly here
Yeah... I don't think it's much like SBD because from what I could find, it seem the two Dr. used to work together (Mt. Sinai Hospital) and they differ on what they consider a healthy diet. This new book is very much like the old school of thought... less protein, more complex carbs, low fat. The key to the Reality Diet, it seems, is that your carbs have to meet a fiber requirement... every 90 calories of carb must provide 2 grams of fiber. That's not impossible if you choose fiber enriched whole grain products. If I remember the number right, he wants the diet to be 60% carbs...
It might work with the fiber. But I'm not willing to go back to high carb/low fat/low protein. BTDT and it didn't work for me.... for years it didn't work. Even if I thought the fiber requirement would help it work... not for me. I'll stick w/SBD because I can make it work. And that's what it all boils down to... finding an eating plan that works for YOU personally, for your body and lifestyle. I can live SB... I can make this a forever thing. But, I don't have any problem with someone who finds SBD wrong for them to try something new. That's how you find what works for your needs. It's also why discussions like this are so important |
