| why can't they be at the bottom? |

I don't know since I had nothing to do with them (nor did any of the other moderators who have no control over these things.)
Here are my ideas why:
1. There is already a different kind of ad at the bottom of every page.
2. The google ads typically appear on all sites as bars on the side. So maybe it is a google ad setting that can't be changed.
3. No one would see them. The point of having them is to encourage you to click on them to generate revenue for the site owner. This kind of bandwidth doesn't happen for free and as crystl noted, she just moved everything to a dedicated server based on our complaints of system response time.
4. System admin doesn't want them on the bottom. |

I was pleasantly surprised when I loggged on this morning saw that the site looked "different". It took me a minute or two before I realized the ad sidebar had been moved to the right which dramatically cuts down on the amount of scrolling needed to view our fav forums.
