:?: I have been on Atkins for almost two weeks and have lost 9 lbs-YIPPEE!! I have been considering the SB plan because it seems a lot more do-able over the long run. My biggest obstacle is the lack of sugar in mt coffee-I switched to decaf which was no big deal but if i could just have one teaspoon of sugar it would make such a difference!! i can't have the artifical sweetners as they give me a tremendous headache! I've tried them all. Do you think one teasppon of sugar a day would totally ruin everything?? Thanks for any advice! mw

Since Splenda is made from sugar, I don't think it would bother you. Surely you could learn to do without that sugar in your coffee with its no nutrition calories.

I tried the Splenda and it gave me a tremendous headache but the funny thing is i tried sugar again after my two week induction and ended up with a headache too--so i guess sweets are out of my life for good!
It made my coffee taste yucky too. mw

no, whey isn't a sweetener. Yes, whey is the slimey, milky fluid that's the liquid part of milk when the solids are separated out. Curd is the milk solids.. cottege cheese is curd.

If you want to see whey, line a strainer with a coffee filter, put it over a bowl and scoop either some cottege cheese or some yogurt into the filter. Let it sit for a few hours and then check the bowl. It will have whey in it.

Whey is high protien and is used to thicken and emulsify foods and give them body and silkiness.

Hi. In response to your question about using a little sugar, while not supported by Dr. A, I have had two cups of decaf coffee with ~1 Tbs. each of real sugar every morning throughout P1. I chose to do this because I am nursing and didn't want to use artificial sweeteners. Even with this amount of sugar, I lost 8 pounds in P1. In addition, virtually all my cravings for carbs and other sweet snacks have vanished. I know it's not the official route and I may have lost more weight if I hadn't kept in the sugar, but it was the only way to get through the morning with two small kids for me. If this is the only thing holding you back from switching from Atkins, I would totally go for it. SB is so much healthier and sustainable in the longterm. So, you may lose a bit slower if you do SB with a little sugar your coffee, but you will be better off in terms of both overall health and true lifestyle change than if you stay on Atkins.

Hope this helps.

Mary, I have not completely eliminated sugar from my diet. While coffee isn't the issue for me, I use a lime dipping sauce that contains sugar in it (use it on a semi-regular basis). I figure if I were to use a sugar replacement in everthing I cook, SB will become a "diet" and I'll fail. So far, I'm doing ok. I say play it by ear. If you need that spoonful of sugar, then use it. But, try it for a week, and if you find that this triggers cravings, then try cutting back or using an alternative sweetner, or try switching to lattes (I dont put any sugar in it, and the milk cuts the bitterness of the coffee).

Sugar doesn't have to be completely banished from your life, but you definitely have to have it in VERY LIMITED amounts. Good luck!

My friend had sugar in her tea and lost weight (roughly 3-4 cups a day) I dont think it hurts if you cut out sugar in general.Fructose is good to use as well, natrually sweeter than normal sugar and has doesnt have effect on blood sugar.
