I've just started the SB Diet. I must continue taking my medication Glucovance, to prevent diabedes. The first 2 weeks will be difficult for me, as I am getting a hypoglycemic reaction. I'm not sure what I should eat to prevent this... can't eat fruit, sweets, sugar, etc. I can take glucose tablets, which help, but they probably aren't ideal. Any suggestions? thanks...

Have you talked to your doctor about this diet before starting it? I think you should talk to him before going further with this diet. This message board is a poor substitute for medical advice from your treating physician.

Yes, I spoke to a doctor, but I'm curious to know if others in similar situations have been told the same thing. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced the doctor is always right, so I just was curious to know what other people do. You are clearly right to suggest to consult with a doctor.

Dr. Agatston says that once a hypo-glycemic reaction hits it's very hard to stop...you'd have to eat alot of carbs or whatever. He said the only way is to stop it BEFORE it hits...do this by making sure you are eating enough AND all your snacks. Get sufficient good fats and make sure you're getting enough daily calories.

Someone on here wrote something about using vegetable broth to help. But I can't find the thread. Hopefully she/he will see this and respond. I think she said celery, green beans, etc in vege broth.

:D Just eat a spoonful of peanut butter. There is low-carb available now in the grocery stores. Or natural peanut butter, I don't know where to get it tho. I am hypoglycemic and will get the shakes if I go too long without eating. I eat a spoonful of peanut butter and feel better within minutes. Hope it helps you too.

weho,
I am thinking a sweet potato would be perfect to prevent a hypoglycemic reaction. Just wash it, wrap it in a paper napkin, pop it in the microwave for what? 5 minutes?! Then eat it as a snack. Sound good?

Cheryl

I think it is ph1 allowed. I will check. :)
