RedRocket,
I know that they basically have the same number of carbs, and that white has just few less. At this Atkin's site http://atkins.com/global/carb-counter/ it lists a 4oz. glass of white wine, with .9 carbs, and 4 oz. of red wine with 2 carbs. My memory of the SB diet book is not crystal clear, but I think the author recommended red wine due to all its purported health benefits. I think I have read that all wines have such health benefits, and even the totally "off limits" beer. But, certainly you hear more about the reds. Anyway, this is what I know about it.
Also, for years, I have preferred red to white wine, yet, oddly, after being on this diet for a few weeks, red wine did not appeal to me, as much as a glass of white. I don't if the diet had anything to do with it. I speculated that since reds are slightly higher in sugar, that the diet might have made red wine slightly less appealing. Anyway, at least my husband is happy. Everytime a dog, or child, or me, knock over a glass of red wine, and we have to get out the carpet cleaner, and various stain removing potions, he says, "you should switch to white!" |
