Hi Everyone,
I am new to this diet, and have been having success with P1 for a week. I am wondering about the low "net carb" candy bars, ice creams, etc. These treats seem to have high carbs but then they advertise very low "net carbs". What's up with that? Are these treats permissible in p1?
Sadly, I am getting bored of sf jello.
Thanks! I'm so glad I found this forum! It's great to have support!

Sugar free hard candies are allowed in p1 in moderation, and so are no-sugar-added fudgesicles.

Sugar free soft candies are not permitted, and neither are low-carb treats that use sugar or enriched flour.

Rather than look at the nutritional information, you should be closely watching the ingredient lists. Remember, SBD isn't low carb... it's low GI.

In phase one, you really need to stick to the program and not fall off the wagon. Once in p2, you'll have a lot more leeway for that stuff.

Those low "net carb" treats usually have a lot of fat and calories, so they aren't a "free lunch," so to speak. Also, their main ingredient is sugar alcohol, which bothers a lot of people--gas, the runs, etc.

The net carbs are the total carbs minus fiber and sugar alcohols which have minimal effect on your blood sugar.
I had a goal of 39 pounds to lose. I have lost 30 pounds so far in 12 weeks. Starting in about week 5, I started eating the Russell Stover low-carb chocolates daily. I know they are not allowed, but they are so good!! And I am still losing, only 9 pounds to go.

DON'T EAT TOO MANY SUGAR FREE HARD CANDIES!! I know they taste delicious and are practically guilt-free, but you will pay for it later. I'm talking about ridiculously painful gas. Im sorry to be so blunt but I found this out the hard way just a couple days ago. If you eat just like 1 or 2 of them you should be fine, but really try not to go overboard!!!

SOOOOOOOOO true. I bought a bag of sugarfree candies and had three (3!!!) when I was at work. The rest of the day was horrible but I never made the connection to the candies.

The next two days were the same, and it always kicked in about an hour after eating them. I finally figure out that it was from the candy.

It's not even just embarassing bloating...it's (like you said) sometimes painful!
