I tried SB for 1 day and got sick because I really just can't eat much meat or fish. I had chicken breast for lunch and was sick for the rest of the day/night...I HATE most meat! I am trying to modify the diet to suit my needs. A little mix of vegetarian/normal. I have these good "Lean 'N Lite" Ham slices and Turkey breast slices that I will be eating. As well as "Canadian Veggie Bacon" (haven't tried it yet..kinda scares me lol but hopefully I'll like it). Anyways, I was thinking of adding some Plain Fat-Free Yogurt every second day (alternating with my celery and natural peanut butter as snacks)....Now the yogurt IS Fat-Free BUT the carbs are 9.1g...that kinda makes me worry. Will this little 1/2 cup every second day for just the FIRST week affect my weight loss? I am staying on Phase 1 for 4 weeks. I just wanted to add it for the first week to get my body used to things. I have a very sensitive stomach....

The plain fat-free yogurt is fine in p1 now. The carbs are fine--SB isn't low carb. There is more information on updates like this in the link below.

Why are you staying on P1 for 4 weeks? With the variety of foods available to you, you're only going to make yourself miserable for a longer time than you need to. On my second week of P1 I lost .6 lbs. On my first week of P2 I lost 2.6 lbs. My second week of P2, 3 lbs (though it would have been 2 without a stomach bug hitting.) P1 is only fast because your body is losing a lot of water weight and SOME fat weight. If you continue on it, from what I've read in the boards, you'll probably lose no more weight than you would by going to P2 or even stall. That said...

It's my opinion people have become overly "carb" conscious. I've never gotten onto the Atkin's wagon, so when I started SBD, I went with the eat the good carbs and good fats philosophy, carbs being a good part of my daily caloric number. What do you like to eat if not meat? Tofu and legumes? That's easy to incorporate into the SBD style of eating. Look through Vegetarian Times, so many of their recipes are SBD friendly, it's kind of funny. (While "light" magazines are more Atkins friendly.)

P2 isn't about eating more, it's about adding a few key items to round out your diet effectively. You'll be much happier on P2 and then, when you want a boost, you can go on P1 every so often. That seems to be far more effective (according to people on these boards) than staying on it for a long time all at once.

PS. Please check out Kimboroni's FAQ page. There is so much there worth reading, PLUS the updated food lists!

I haven't decided for sure but I will probably stay on Phase 1 for 4 weeks but it really all depends on how I'm doing after 2...I may go right to Phase 2, who knows. And if I find the weight loss is, say, stalling in week 3 I will probably move right on. I read an interview with Dr. Agatston and he said it is fine to say on Phase 1 for up to 4 weeks as long as you make sure you exercise to help maintain bone and muscle mass :) I wouldn't do it without checking first...but like I said, we'll see :)
And yeah I am a little over-aware of carbs...it's hard to break the bad habits like being obsessed with the calorie and carb counts lol I'm workin on it but wanted to make sure anyways.
Thanx for the answers guys!

TLC, now calories are a different story for me entirely! I do SBD with a firm eye on calories. That's my unbroken habit. :P I have SBD down now so that at the end of the day when I enter what I've eaten into one of the nutrition programs, I'm almost always in the 1300-1500 calorie range. I know that if I eat one extra nut serving, I've blown it for the day (or that's what I feel.) Is this good? Well, it keeps me from eating too little (don't want to slow my metabolism down! EEEK!) and I don't want to eat too much (not lose weight? Noooo!) But it makes me a little obsessive on being careful not to cheat. After all, weight loss still depends on using more calories than taking in. :D

Good luck with the diet! I've really learned to enjoy this style of eating and, I think once you incorporate your own preferences into it, you'll like it better, too.
