I drink about 2-3 cups of strong coffee in the am w/splenda and ff milk. I'm thinking of giving this up in favor of green tea. I heard on someone on the radio say that when he did this he dropped 6 lbs in a month. Nothing was said about SB or any other diet, just to advantages of green tea vs. the disadvantages of caffeine.
Is this a crackpot idea? I know caffeine is not highly recommended on SB but I have given up soooooooo much in the last two months and I really, really love my coffee.
Anyone have any thoughts? |

| Green tea is really high in caffiene, I think that attributes to the weight loss, especially in people that don't normally have caffiene. I would just stay with the coffee and maybe try to cut back a little. I think in some people, caffiene makes them so jittery they eat to offset the shakes. The other thing is, if you are a female, caffiene interacts with birth control pills and can make its effects stronger... just a little factoid... but, I didn't quit the coffee, and I'm doing fairly well. 9 pounds in 3 weeks... |

Thanks for the reply, SkinnyMarie. I bought the decaffeinated kind thinking that that was more along the lines of what Dr. A said about caffeine and insulin. My thought was to eliminate caffeine completely. I'd be a grouch for a while but it may be worth it.
Some people say caffeine stimulates the metabolism, others say it increases insulin production which stimulates appetite. I have no clue. Just looking to get healthy. |

A "bump" is a post on a thread that moves the topic back up to the top of the list.
I think that the studies are still inconclusive about caffiene. There has been some evidence that caffiene makes it harder for your body to let go of fat, but the degree that it affects it is in question. |

| Hmm never heard that one. I know that Green Tea is "known" or "supposed" to help stimulate your metabolism. |

| I don't know how caffiene effects a person as far as dieting, but I decided to eliminate my one cup of coffee per day. I found I kind of missed having a warm cup of something in the morning (habit), so I started drinking a cup of green tea (decaf version) and it worked wonders. I only had one day of caffiene withdrawel and now I feel good! Green Tea is also supposed to be very good for you. |

| Recently read an article (scientific medical journal) that discussed the BENEFITS of drinking caffeine and glycemic control. Wish I could find the link to post it. |
