You gotta get into your head that SBD isn't low carb.. it's good carb.

In other words, what are the INGREDIENTS?

As far as South Beach not being low carb, I must disagree. After testing my urine using ketostrips I have tracked my fat-burning. But I noticed that when I ate chickpeas (which are allowed in phase 1, but are full of "good carbs") I stopped burning fat and did not lose anything. There should be some limit in the book for beans and other things high in carbs because even though they are "good" they won't help you lose weight in the way the book promises ('8 to 13 pounds in phase 1').

You don't use those strips on SB, because it isn't low carb. You should not be on ketosis on SB, because it isn't low carb. Eat more veggies and more legumes and throw those strips away!

Yep, gibbie...

If you're using urinalisis strips (first off, that's just weird), and they indicate youre in ketosis, you're not making a choice that you can keep on for the rest of your life.

Ketosis can be dangerous. Yes, you do go into ketosis in the early phases of p1, but p2 should get you out of it. Staying in ketosis can be very, very hazardous to your health, long term.

So stop checking the urine, start eating what's on the plan, and start living the rest of your life in a way that is GOOD for you.

thanks for the concern, but i don't think it's wierd at all. i've done atkins and the only difference i see between phase 1 on south beach and phase 1 on atkins is that south beach has less fat and slightly more carbs. i mean, i'm not advocating that everyone jump into ketosis, but what i am saying is that such a dramatic weight loss in the first 2 weeks ("8 to 13 pound" as the book claims) cannot be done without exercise (as the book also claims) without going into ketosis. i don't plan on remaining there for the duration of the diet, but it's something that nearly everyone who follows the diet will experience at one point or another, and it's just something to moniter.
