| I am just starting the diet today but have been juicing (carrots). There is a lot of benefits to the juice but saw carrots are out. What can I do to maintain my juice, if anything:?: |

Huggie,
According to the revised South Beach plan, carrots are now allowable. I'm not sure about the juice, though. I was under the impression that juices rob us of the fiber that is present if we eat our veggies and fruits whole. I do know that you can have v-8 though, if that's something you like.

| Carrots are in, juice is not. Juices are basically digested vegetables. THe exception is V8 as a fast alternate, but the whole fruit or vegetable is preferred.... |

Yep.
Carrots were initially out because of their high sugar content, but then were added back into the diet because they contain so much fiber and people aren't know to eat entire batches of them, just maybe 1/2 to one at a time.
But when you juice a carrot, you are not only consuming a WHOLE LOT of carrots at once, you're getting pretty much all the sugar and none of the fiber.
I'm not saying it's not healthy, but it is condensing a whole batch of veggies/fruits into a single shot of sugar as much as apple juice or orange juice does. It's full of good nutrients, but it's not on the SBD.
Looks like you'll be putting the juicer away if you're going on SBD. |

| That's really good advice from those three! Carrots have been added back for phases 2 and 3, but not for p 1 (that I know of). |
