On the Recipe intro, it says to start by introducing low glycomic index foods like oatmeal and couscous, and to avoid the good high glycomic foods like whole wheat pasta or whole grain bread or rice.
Well, first off couscous is HIGHER than some of those other whole grain things on the index list.
And second in the sample menus, they list some sort of whole grain bread everyday to start. Plus two fruits everyday.
It's confusing. I don't think the book explains it clearly. I have no idea what I'm supposed to eat. |

Yep. Don't think they did a good job editing. I doubt he wrote the meal plan. Or he may have written it with 1-2 weeks into Phase 2 in mind.
Also says not to start Phase 2 with morning carbs, but what is Day 1? Oatmeal and strawberries.
Found lots of other contradictory things. |

Yeah, just to add more confusion......you're not supposed to 'save' your carbs for dinner. Personally, I've started a with bowl of FIBER ONE for breakfast with a lean meat or a cheese stick for breakfast. The rest of the day I keep the same to P1. On my Mom's B-day I had four chocolate dipped strawberries (from the book) as dessert.
What else can I tell you other than I've decided to pay attention more to the principals of the diet and listen more to what my stomach's telling me. For example, on my first day of P2 I only had a 1/2 c. of Fiber One for breakfast and I was hungry all day. So I added in a lean meat and a full cup of cereal and I'm good.
I think as long as you understand the principals you can't go wrong!
Hope this helps;

| Thanks for the advice. I think I'll do that - just follow the priniciples and listen to my body. |

| I belong to SB online and someone was askng something similar. The nutritionist said the meal plans were for people who have been on phase 2 awhile (a few months) and that people just starting phase 2 should only add 1-2 new things a week so maybe a piece of fruit for the first 3-4 days and then add a serving of cereal or a piece of whole grain bread. I added one new thing a week. It is very confusing and I wish they'd come out with a better version. That's why I belong to SB online. You can get your questions clarified and you get all the latest updates. I don't like the idea that they charge though. |

I too, have to agree with all of you that the book is confusing!
I am starting Phase II today, and am kinda scared to start it. Read the book and on day 1 of phase 2, it showed 2 new carbs in 1 meal!! Yikes!
Then couscous, an additional carb at lunch or dinner!
I certainly don't wanna gain back any of these inches, and I have come to the conclusion, that I am gonna add 1 apple a day, for like 4 days, and then add some other carb as an alternative.
This message board has been and will continue to be my "saving grace".
Thanks you all!

You are all sooo correct. I complained about the editing months ago on this forum, and got many replies that I should buy the Good Fats Good Carbs Guide to clarify everything. Well, it did far from that, confused me even more. There are so many changes from the book to the guide, I'm never sure which is correct. Also, the guide should have had an additional column letting us know in which phase the food is allowed, not just have foods listed as Good. Plus, it got me a bit angry (pissed, actually) that I had to buy another book to follow the diet, especially since the book I bought in January has already been changed, I don't want to buy ANOTHER copy. The GFGC Guide should have been included in the SBD book. This forum has been a life-saver (sugar free, of course) for me, altho one has to be very careful about taking all advice given here, too, some of the answers to questions are not correct, either.
Who ever said life was easy?
Hugs to all,
Burdle

I followed the meal plans for phase two instead of the books intensions I suppose, I was to confused, but I still continued to lose, and I am losing still in phase 2. I guess to each his own.
But I agree there are several very very confusing parts of the book, though the cookbook clarify's a bit. |
