Does anyone know if imitation crabmeat is OK for Phase 1? I tried to use the canned and it was disgusting! I expected big, nice flakes of crab and instead it was all mushy and I found a small bit of shell. I was too cheap to buy the lump canned crab so maybe that is why??

Anyway if anyone knows if imitation crabmeat is OK please post. I haven't seen it mentioned in the book or elsewhere. I just keep seeing canned crabmeat.

Thanks!

I can't see why you can't eat imitation crab meat. Isn't it all different kinds of fish mixed in with crab? You can eat tuna in can so what would be difference? I would look at ingredients. I think I'd get a small crab claw. [the real thing]. Now you have me wanting crab. I'm also on Phase 1 this is my second week. Can't wait til Phase 2. :D Good Luck

I think on some of the imitation crab, they add sugar, so you might want to look out for that

Yep--some add quite a bit of sugar and starch. If you find one that is just fish, it's fine.

I had posted quite a few weeks back that imitation crab must be OK... afterall, it is fish! But.. someone straightened me out with the following for Louis Rich imitation crab (taken from their website):

Ingredients : Fish protein (pollock, cod and/or whiting), water, sugar, wheat starch, sorbitol, contains 2% or less of the following: Modified food starch, whey protein concentrate, artificial crab flavor, salt, fructose, potassium chloride, egg whites, sodium tripolyphosphate, corn starch, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, glucose, artificial color.

Imitation crab meat is permitted because it's made from white fish according to the good Doc. The closer the sugar (fructose) is to the beginning of the ingredients list the more it's inside the product.

That was from a chat, wasn't it? I'm not sure he really researched it before answering, and just assumed it was only fish.
