Does anyone know about this website? Is it worth the $5.00 per week to join or do you get all the answers you need right on this forum?
I have been thinking about joining because for some reason I am struggling so to lose the weight that I thought maybe they would have answers that would work.
Alot of people on this forum have given me their answers and I've been greatful for them but their answers aren't helping me. 5 weeks on SB and in total I've lost 1 lb (lost 3 and gained back 2 without going off AT ALL). |

if you go back to the "Very Discouraged" thread i responded:
5'8" 144#s puts you dead smack in the middle of the met life height/weight chart for women with a medium frame. you're only 5#s from their suggested weight for a small frame.
i would consider your loss to be quicker than expected with those stats. i think you have unreasonable expectations (no offence!). |

| In 5 weeks to lose 1 lb. and you think my expectations are too high? You have to be kidding. To gain weight being on this plan. Some of what I gained the other day I have now lost, so it is 2 lbs in 5 weeks. I would think that 5 lbs in 5 weeks would be right for me. |

respectfully, you are wrong. losing 1lb per week when you have 10lbs to lose (and i suspect it's less than that) is an unreasonable expectation.
as for gaining, everyone gains -- and then loses -- weight every day all week. i could eat a plate of pasta tonight and the scale will be up 4lbs (water) tomorrow. i can eat a lean menu for a few days, light on grains, and lose a couple of pounds (water, mostly).
that's what being at your goal weight is all about -- adjusting your menu to move the scale -- slowly -- a little bit either way. body weight is never static.
ask any of the "old timers" here how long it took for the last few pounds to come off. i think the answer will generally be "months" -- and most of us were exercising HARD by that point. |

If you are a healthy weight and are as close as oldpjams suggests to ideal then you might NEVER lose weight without a significant amount of diet and exercise. What it sounds like to me is you are looking at losing vanity weight, not weight for your health. You want to look better but your weight isn't going to threaten your health or longevity. Therefore your body is comfortable right where it is. If you want to join the paid site then knock yourself out. But I will charge half the price for the best advice you can get: keep eating healthy and kick up your exercise. |

Mathchick - I don't need to pay someone to get those answers. I used to be paid to help people lose weight. I was a weight watcher lecterer at one time. I know all about diets, plans, etc. I also used to weigh 10 lbs less than I do now. You are coming in on a conversation that was started on another part of this forum but I will explain it to you.
35 years ago (I know it was along time ago) I weighed 207 lbs. I struggled with weight even as a teenager. After my daughter was born I decided that I never wanted to be fat again and so I went on Atkins. When I got tired of Atkins I went on Overeaters Annonymous and then the last few pounds I went to Weight Watchers. When I was all done I weighed approximately 130. I couldn't keep that weight without starving so I went to 135 and stayed there for a number of years. Over the past 3 years I have gone up as high as 150 and no lower than 137. At 5'8 and 146-1/2 lbs (heavy for me as I am small boned) I decided to go on SB (I forgot...2 years ago I went on SB and lost 9 lbs so I was at 137 and happy.) Over the past 2 years I slowly gained that weight back and decided to come back to SB and get the weight off. Well the weight isn't coming off and I've been frustrated. I have tried everything that everyone has said but nothing is happening. I cannot exercise right now and won't be able to for at least two weeks so the exercise part is out of the question for now.
The reason I asked about SB.com is I thought maybe some people either had success with or hated the paying site.
I hope now you understand alittle better what I'm going through. Is my weight ok for my height? I guess according to other people but when you go to the stores and all the tops are supposed to be snug and you can't wear them because you have fat hanging over your pants (that are not too tight), you want to lose the weight.
There are many women much heavier than I am that can wear these kinds of tops. I see them in the malls all the time and can't believe that they can wear the newest tops and I can't.
Now you might have the entire picture and understand my problem. |

| a history of switching diets and gaining then losing works against you too. i think it's entirely surmountable, but it doesn't make anything easier. if you can start exercising in two weeks then you've got something to look forward to... |

I don't see how anything you said changes anything. You are an odd shape and/or hold your weight awkwardly. my hips are wide and my butt is big. Even when I was thin there were styles of pants and skirts I couldn't (and still can't) wear. I'm having a hard time picturing fat hanging over pants that fit properly unless they are low rise pants, in which case I have seen the skinniest of girls have an unattractive roll hang out. You have said there are heavier women wearing the new styles and looking fine. That tells me it's your shape. I could be wrong. I frequently am, but I am seeing nothing in your situation differently.
I am also still classifying your weight as vanity pounds. Your weight isn't threatening your health or well being other than your sanity. your history of what happened 35 years ago also tells me you are probably at least 55. It gets harder and harder to lose weight as you age and your body wants to hold onto that cushion. Though health studies constantly change and contradict I recently read that a little extra weight as your age is a good thing. You shouldn't be obese but there may be some purpose for holding onto that fat as you get older.
You can't exercise. I sympathize. My activity is currently severely restricted by my doctor and I can't do much but leisurely walking and specific physical therapy. If I can't exercise then i can't build muscle. I can lose some fat, but I will never be truely fit. I hope things change for me and I wish you luck as things change for you. But the fact we both have to come to terms with is that if you can't exercise then you can't tone up those problem areas and losing weight will be much much harder, if not impossible for those last few pounds. Exercise also affects how you carry your weight because of how much muscle you have. RP hasn't lost any weight in ages, but she has lost inches like crazy.
I understand that you know all of this, but the sense of urgency and frustration I'm getting from your post indicates that you want reality suspended for you. If you want to subscribe to the pay site then by all means be my guest. I have heard some good things about it as far as little tips and tricks as well as a number of recipes. But there aren't any big secrets you will get if you just pay for them, just like there is no pill or powder that will give you the body you are looking for. If you activity level can increase in two weeks then sit back and count the days. As oldPJams said, it is something to look forward to. You wouldn't get that much out of two weeks of working out anyway. The benefit is in the long term.
Your story is pretty typical, as is your urgency and frustration. I hope you can find support here that will help you achieve your goal and assuage that frustration. Good luck! |

It sounds like just under 140 will be a good weight for you, so you're looking at about 5 pounds to lose. That will be very slow-- most people here who have reached goal said it took months to lose that last 5 pounds. The average loss at that point is probably ½ to 1 pound per month, not per week. And that's with exercise. If you can't exercise at this point, then just concentrate on eating healthy and stop looking for weight loss.
I had a month off exercise for surgery last year. I lost weight during my time off, but my bodyfat percentage also went up. Once I started exercising again, I gained some weight and my BF% went lower than it was before the surgery. So remember to look at components that make up your weight and not just the total. Once you start a program, you might not lose a single pound, but you could lose 3 pounds of fat and gain 3 pounds of muscle and achieve the firmer look that you want.
Good luck with your procedure-- I hope it goes well! |

I enjoy the paid SB website. I like it for all the recipes and for how I can do searching and stuff. I also like to use the menu suggestions and groc shopping lists.
FWIW, if you ask them over on the SBD paid site, they'll probalby give you the same answers (concerning your weight loss) as you've already gotten here. So, just keep that in mind. |

RedPanda here - it's true. I have lost over two dress sizes although my weight has remained static. And thanks to exercise (mainly "lifting heavy" as my journal title indicates) I'm continuing to shrink down and firm up. :) |

I was on the paid site for a month and to tell you the truth I visited this website more. I find just as many recipes here and the people here are wonderful for support and questions. Just my opinion though.

Just thought you'd all like to know that I wrote to this site and they answered me without having to give them any money. They also said that if what they said didn't help to write them back.
I thought that was pretty good since I don't belong. |

just a suggestion and dont laugh but maybe the reason why your low weight is cumulatively higher is due to internal garbage?
i don't speak from experience but I have heard colonics can purge around 10 lbs and have a myriad of benefits, i have been considering this myself, it is only a question of money. |

Colonics are dangerous from what I heard. Plus once you take them don't you think whatever is inside comes back?
No matter what I read about dieting lately, it really all comes back to
Southbeach. Everything anyone is saying is what we have on here. So I guess I'm getting to the point where this is my way of life and I'll never lose more weight...lol |
