Madriz

I just finished the SBD book. Only other diet I tried was WW and I had success on it, gained a little back, but it wasn't the plans fault, it was my own. Anyway, I started hearing about how cravings subside on SBD and wanted to check it out because I do get a lot of cravings, especially ice cream.

Here are my thoughts on SBD and a question: I like the idea of cutting out empty carbs (white flour, pasta, etc.) and eating lean meats instead of unlimited saturated meats. I haven't formally adopted the program, but I have cut out the pasta and white bread and adding more food with fiber which is filling me up.

I don't think the book stresses exercise enough in the weight loss equation but that's ok, I try to work out 4-5 times/week.

The part I'm worried about with myself, is that the SBD book says not to worry about keeping track of how much you are eating, to eat until you are satisfied and then stop. But, like a lot of people trying to lose weight I have a problem with portion control and not so much what I'm eating. Does anyone find themselves eating too much, even of the allowed foods, and not losing weight because of it?

this comes up a lot. i definitely think it's possible to over eat some of the allowed foods -- nuts for example. the book does give portion sizes for nuts and snacks and most of the approved deserts have portion sizes too -- 4 servings to a box of pudding, etc.

i think it would be really unlikely that you're going to blow this diet by eating too much salad or lean meat. plus, this is a lifestyle change that will hopefully be permanent. you are not going to go through the rest of your life on this eating plan if you're hungry all the time. eat until you are comfortably full and have lots of small "meals" instead of a few huge ones.

I am a portion overeater also. For example, this week I have been especially stressed out and have been eating a bit past the "full" point. The only comfort in that is that as long as it is all SBD approved, I don't seem to be gaining. The problem is, I have been hovering around the same weight for quite a while now (lost 15 lbs, could stand to lose at least 15 more). I think I need to go back to a STRICT phase 1, as my larger portions may be keeping me at a plateau.
