What are your thoughts on Food Combination Diets? :?
Does it go along with GI, GL & the SBD? |

| I've got a book on that. It "can" go along with the GI and SB concepts -- just has to do with what foods you eat when during the day...and not eating certain foods together, etc. |

Does it really help you lose weight though?
Is it a realistic way to live?
What did you learn from reading the book? :? |

Oh, man. It's been a while since I've read it. I never read that with the goal of losing weight. It was more of a "healthier" way of eating type of thing. Supposedly, eating certain foods together will aid (or not aid) digestion and have different affects. I personally didn't find it realistic, helpful or necessary for myself.
I'd have to dig that one out of the dregs to remember any claims they have about weight loss. I'll bet there's all sorts of new stuff out since then.
Come to think of it, I think one of the March Challengers is doing a combination diet. It's someone whose journal I've already commented on... If I can remember who she is, I'll letcha know. |

Ok :) Thanks.
Tony Robbins recommends it and one of my friends is doing it... and I'm just "worried" she won't get the results she wants.
If anyone has any comments, please feel free to let me know! :) |

| i dont know much about this, but i have heard that its difficult for your body to digest like carbs and proteins when they are eaten together, so ive heard of diets that recommend that they be eaten separately (is this even what you're talking about???) my mom tried it and i think she said it worked for her (she has tried every diet, but never stuck with anything). i think its definitely something that can be incorporated into SB. in fact, i might try it out to help me since i have lots of digestive issues!!! |

This diet was very popular during the 90's. Everyone I knew was on it.
The principle was about not combining certain foods together so that you had a better digestion. Like no meat with potatoes. But the diet was only based on the enzyme in the mouth and oblivious to all those other enzymes that work together in the stomach, making it possible to have meat and potatoes.
I only find that with the new research at hand, this old diet is not much in tune with all that we know now and it as been discarded by the Scientific community and most Nutritionist. |

I don't have any formal information on any diets based on these principles, but I can tell you that from a personal viewpoint, combining certain foods (or types of foods) works for me.
For example, if I just have cottage cheese for my a.m. snack, it doesn't work for me. I'm hungry soon after, I might even gain water weight from the sodium in the cottage cheese. However, if I combine blueberries into the cottage cheese and also have a small serving of cashews, it's a beautiful thing. And combinations like this are helping me feel better, feel fuller and lose weight.
Every one of us is too unique to follow any diet exactly as written. You really need to figure out what your particular body chemistry needs to thrive. |

This is so true. Even the SBD doesn't work for everyone. We all have to make our own modifications and how it suits our body. But you know what... I had to learn that myself. No one could really tell me that. I had to learn by experience. But I was also willing to learn all I could about it and how it could help me achieve my goals.
Lynda... did you figure this out by trial and error or from your nutritionist? :? |

Trial and error.
Although he does believe in the concept. |
