I have belonged to this forum for well over a year. Lately the site reacts very slowly to requests for pages and for postings. I notice several newer users end up with multiple posts because it looks like the posting did not go through.

Lately it is the worst that I have seen in a long time. Is there something happening to your server that it is interrupting the quick display of threads. I have actually left the room and made a quick snack and when I returned it was still loading the thread that I requested.

Can you please check into it and try to get it back working like it used to. Thanks.

Yeah, it's as bad as I've seen it since I joined as well. I thought it might just be a temporary thing, but it has persisted for awhile. I know I keep saying this, but just to clarify, the mods have no control over the inner workings of the forum, its database, or servers. Any relief would have to come from the system administrator, but limiting access to speed up the forum for those who can get in, isn't a great solution either.

So, Red, who do you think is the best person to contact - the "contact message board admin" link at the bottom of the screen? thanks!

Yep! Although I PM'ed him/her on a different matter a few days ago and it is still in my outbox and hasn't been picked up yet. So not sure how quickly he/she will see anything. Kind of an "absent landlord" kind of thing at times here unfortunately. But still worth a shot!

well, i figure this is where we're supposed to post, and if the admin isn't reading it and only mods, then the mods should contact the admin..

There are posts within my own journal that completely do not appear. Example, I do the search function in the your diet journal forum and it shows there that my last post was on March 6, 06 yet when I go into the journal, the last post is from March 1, 06...

Also, I'm part of the newbie BC squad and when I go into the fitness forum I can't find my sticky or posting area. This is weird.

I agree. I went into your journal and I see 3 separate posts from March 6th however. Your last one was as follows:

reminder to self....
A liter is 34 oz

Deer Park bottles of water are .5 L OR 17 oz

The BC - Newbie Squad thread is here. http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57023 Can you get to it from this link? It is the third sticky thread from the top of the forum. Were you looking for it as a sticky thread?

If you are still having problems I would run a good thorough virus scan and spyware scan with a couple different programs to see if there may be something running in the background on your PC that you are not aware of that might be causing this. From my perspective, the forum appears to be working normally in the areas you are having problems with.

Redrox, thanks for you reply and help- I did end up finding the BC sticky, thanks.

That is the last post that you just showed from my journal, yet I cannot see it- I was actually trying to check the oz amount of the bottle I was drinking. Right now, I do not see any posts after last Wednesday at all.

My computer should be okay since this is my work laptop and my company has us install lots of updates and has strong anti-virus stuff. I'll do another update today just in case.

Well that is strange indeed! :? Maybe try accessing the forum from another computer and see if the results are any different? I don't really have any other ideas on this one. Sorry.

Update on the performance issues:

I was in contact with the system admin. today and she is looking into the performance issues. She has already doubled the RAM for the site in mid-February, but her hosting company feels that is still insufficient and what is needed is a dedicated server to host this forum. She is in the process of exploring those options and has asked us to bear with it for the time being. If I hear anything else from her, I'll let you know!

I've had posts disapear as well...why not prune the site to free up bandwidth? I'm pretty sure with this software that you can easily delete old, dead threads from years ago and install automatic deletes for threads that have been dormant for 60-90 days...to keep things current and active.

This site has many dormant threads...its no wonder that it's bandwidth heavy and so slow to load or offers error messages.

Why do we still have posts from 2003 that haven't been responded to in 3 years? Isn't it time to clean off the desktop and free up space for the current, active members?

Hear, hear! I don't post very much any more because it's soooooooo slow. I miss all my beach buddies!

She has also pruned the Test and Spam folder. Why no more than that? I have no idea. She believes the dedicated server will solve the issues even with the current DB size and I think she is still looking into that option. Have no idea where it stands or what the status is though.

Well I haven't been getting any email notifications for the past 2 days. So I'm hoping it's this site and not something else. :?
