**Poll for the hell of it** :P
Okay, here's so here's the deal... I have a veeery slow internet connection at a blazing 26kps (eek!), and while my googling skills aren't bad, I was wondering if someone with a better connection and/or superior research skills could do a little sniffing for me...
I want to shave my head for charity, but I would have to organize a little group of people and select a charity to donate to, plus get that charity's approval, plus all kinds of other stuff. What I would love to do, since it's so hard to get anyone in this backwater to do anything, is to have a cross-country type of shave-a-thon where it's broadcasted on the net to get the most dollars for said charity. This is very unlikely, but it's what I would love to do. What I need is any kind of info on people doing shavings for charity, links to sites and stuff, and best yet, contact info or links to them for people who have done it/organized it themselves.
I don't know why I want to do this so much, but I just do. Any help? |

| Just a note to say I was appalled at the way you phrased your poll question... why should "fat people" be segregated and kept from doing anything they damn well please. Isn't that discrimination? |

| If you can't organize a whole shave-a-thon, my daughter has had friends with very long hair get short hair cuts and they donate the hair to organizations that use it to make wigs for kids on chemo or other cancer treatments that leave them bald. It's not as dramatic, but it might make you feel better and like you have helped someone! Sorry, I don't know the names of any of those organizations off the top of my head. |

Lynda, I'm just having a bit of fun. I'm a fat peron, and it really is a concern of mine about going bald... fat rolls on the back of my head that I may or may not have (never bothered to check) would totally disgust me. Just curious about the rest of you.
Thanks, redroxco. I had about three feet of hair chopped off a few years ago and I kept it for sentimental reasons... maybe I could still donate it to a group like that... Thanks! |

| I am pretty sure you're talking about "Locks of Love" http://www.locksoflove.org/ It is a wonderful orginization. My twin daughters have very long strawberry blond hair and have been asked to donate several times! :D |

I'm a fat person and I shave my head. I didn't even ask if it was allowed or not! I hope my rolls aren't too offensive. :P Of course the only thing more popular in Texas than fat guys with their heads shaved are fat guys with mullets!
Here's an idea:
While researching the effects of chemo and radiation on hair, I ran across a site where this lady lost her hair due to chemo treatments and had her artist friend do a henna tattoo on her bald head! I think it's great!!
Here's the website:

Maybe you could henna your avatar on your head? :D |

luvs_torun, I thought it was something like that but I wasn't sure on the specifics. I'm wondering if they'll still take it, but I'll e-mail the local sect. Thanks for the linky!
lonnie: lol I don't think it's offensive to be bald at all. I was just wondering if anyone thought anything of it... ya know, like some people don't like to wear tank tops because they hate their arms. Same thing. I'm just sick of the politically correct 'overweight'... I'm not just overweight, I'm fat, so that's how I phrased the question (plus not a lot of women get their heads shaved around here). Henna sounds like a neat idea, I might try it if I'm one of those people who isn't meant to be bald. :P Thanks! |
