How much do you snack??

I know that you're supposed to eat until your satisfied, but does anyone feel like they go overboard sometimes? I'm asking because in the book I'm pretty sure it lists snacks twice a day, but if I'm hungry I definately snack more than twice (only allowable things of course). In the end, calories are calories even if the snacks are "legal." I'm just wondering how much everyone else is actually eating on a daily basis??

for most of P1 and P2 i stuck to the recommended amounts -- e.g. cheesestick in the a.m., apple in the p.m (P2), desert after dinner. a handfull of almonds if i get really hungry in between snacks or before dinner.

lately i've been having a bowl or two of Fiber 1 with fruit before bed as i've been really hungry at night. doesn't seem to be a problem -- yet -- but i do get concerned about over-snacking.

i've started popping a slice or two of deli ham in place of some of the nuts and that seems to help a little.

Yea I've decided that peanut butter is my downfall. I've been pretty good at limiting myself to just the 2T a day, but I feel like I'm craving that more than the bread. So I'm gonna stop buying it and see if that will limit my snacking a little bit. But after reading people's journals, I don't think I'm eating more than anyone else is so that's a good sign!

I sometimes go a little over the 75 calories of sugar-free treats allowed. I'll put 2 sugar-free fudgicles in a cup & mix it with some sugar-free chocolate syrup & skim milk. It's my SBD version of a milk shake, and I have it for dessert after dinner once or twice a week. I don't go over 75 calories by much, and it's the only sweet treat I have (no sugar-free candy or gum) that day.

This is the only way I've gone over snack/dessert recommendations so far. Now that I'm on P2 and eating Fiber One for breakfast, I'm not eating the mid-morning snack. I would if I was hungry, but I don't have any appetite till lunch time. I still have a snack most afternoons. It keeps me from raiding the fridge while I'm cooking dinner!

I think you can overdo it on cheese and nuts. They have lots of calories but are "good fats." There are days when I will have an apple, a glass of veggie juice, a cheese stick, two hard boiled eggs, a 1/2 C. cottage cheese, and 10 or so nuts as my total snacks all throughout the day. I may even nibble on dinner leftovers. And that's not counting cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch, and meat and veggies for dinner. I've still lost weight.

Good luck.

Snacking throughout the day will keep your metabolism raised. If you go long periods of time without food, your metabolism will begin to decrease. By eating frequently, you keep your metabolism in high gear.

I eat breakfast around 6:00 am, morning snack around 9-10 (whenever I get hungry), lunch between 13:30-14:00 (I workout over my lunch hour, so have lunch when I get back from the gym), then, if I'm working out in the evening, I have a snack before that, if not, I have supper. Otherwise, supper is when I get back from the gym.

If you eat smaller meals for breakfast, lunch and supper, you will need your snacks. That's what you want to try to do - have 5-6 "mini-meals" a day, to keep your metabolism in high gear.

You got it right when you say calories are calories.

The only way any of us lose weight is to consume fewer calories in a day than we burn. SBD gives us a way to eliminate cravings and thereby consume less calories, but the bottom line is that you have to burn more than you eat. I try to always keep that in mind!

I do tend to snack too often....I admit it! I especially go way overboard on the nuts...just love them! I'm still losing at a good rate, so I guess I will deal with portion control and too much snacking when the weight loss slows down which I am sure it will as I get closer to goal.

If you burnt more than you ate then you'd die!

I snack on my more active days. It makes sense to me. You're doing more, so you need more fuel. I used to be concerned about eating after I got home from work at 10:30pm, but a dietican I talked to said it made sense that I was hungry then, I had just worked for 3 hours while most folks were just lounging that time of day! I just needed to keep the snack small. If you're hungry or really low in energy, EAT! Just keep it a small snack. If you're still hungry, eat some veggies!

Btw, I eat a lot of nuts too! I have a 3 year old, & nuts are just so handy of a snack. I keep them in the car. I'm not too worried, I've lost about 20lbs.
