I'm interested in seeing how many people work out at the gym and how many work out at home. If you work out at home, what do you do? Do you use any specific videos? I have the "Power 90" and I wanted to see if anyone else out there is using it.
Thanks!

Home... Stairmaster, weight bench, dumbells/barbell/curl bar, swiss ball, and yoga matt, exercise bands... plus yoga and pilates dvd's.
The only thing I wish for is another cardio machine for the winter, as in the summer I can get outside if I want to mix it up. More choice is what makes a gym membership attractive, but with our home gym its unnecessary. |

| Home for me, too. I've taken some classes at the gym but I have dumbbells, yoga mat, exercise ball, exercise bands and various DVD's. My guestroom has become my personal gym. |

i do equal parts gym and running outside. can't wait til it's warm out to run more, gym less. |

| I love the gym I go to! Its a small facility, very friendly, comfortable atmosphere. All the staff get to know the members and are genuinely interested in peoples goals and progress. I'm always getting words of encouragment and there is often a trainer around willing to answer questions even though I can't afford to pay them for a full session. Its great incentive because I know if I started slacking on my workouts, the staff would call me on it! |

| I workout at home. I have an elliptical and I found a website that has given me a program to target problem areas and an over all workout with free weights. I just started the free weights program this week. Im enjoying it. I watch tv and do my workouts at the same time. I just used to watch tv. The gyms here are not really acceptable to women so doing it at home is my only option plus because of my job I wouldnt be able to go even if it was acceptable. |

I do both. But I voted "home" because I workout at home more than I workout at the gym. That will be changing soon though because I have more cardio things at home (Elliptical, cardio videos, pilates, tae bo) and I want to do more weight machines/free weights at the gym.
I've never heard of Power 90. :? I'll have to check into it... :) |

I chose "gym," but I (like so many others it seems!) do a combo of both. But I'm at the gym, handily located right next door to my daughters' dance studio, four days a week. With the amount of time it took for me to figure out there was a gym next door, I'd have been another 20 pounds lighter and a whole heck of a lot more toned LOL And with two girls dancing, I'm at the ballet studio more than I'm home most days!
At home I do "Inhale," a kick-ass yoga program on the Oxygen channel at 6 a.m. (thank the gods for TiVo, else I would never have found it--nor would I ever do it, as I'm snuggled in bed at 6 a.m.!), the occasional strength training section in a magazine, or some aerobic moves for 20-30 minutes while watching TV. Can't stand aerobic vids, and figure I know how to grapevine enough to get the ol' heart going LOL
Man, did I write a book or what?!

I work out at a gym only. Even if I had all the equipment in the universe available to me at home, I've found I really must go to a gym. I need to leave my house and go elsewhere in order to motivate. At home there's too many other things to do besides work out. Fortunately, I work at a university, so I get a gym for free!
I feel really strongly (and this is why I'm posting) that women need not be intimidated by gyms. If we run away from them, then the problem will never be solved. I go to the gym and lift weights and everyone else can just kiss my jiggly booty! :P I have women friends who have really shied away from working out at all because they don't have room in their houses for equipment, or don't have the money to buy it, yet are terrified of gyms.
What I always tell myself when I go to a gym that is woman-unfriendly (the one I go to now because it's at a college, is totally 50/50) is that all those enormous guys standing around flexing and grunting and lifting way more than they should just to impress all the other guys and not doing any cardio or flexability training are really just on a road to injury and I should feel sorry for them, not intimidated. The gym I went to before I moved here was sort of like that, but I just put on my mp3 player, blocked it all out and did what I needed to do for me. |

I work out at home only because I can't fit it in other wise. I have several DVD's, an elliptical, a stepper, a ball, free weights, and an aerobic step. I get up in the morning early, throw on my workout clothes and go to it. I think I wake up about halfway through. I don't have time to talk myself out of it this way and I don't interfere with DH or DD's schedules.
It's also a great way to start the day! I've been at it steadily for a few years now. In the summer it is the most awesome experience to go out for a run and watch the sun come up! I think it gives me a boost for the day and a better mind set for when I walk in to work. |

| I workout only at home, using THE FIRM. I will never belong to a gym again. |

I work out in a gym because my son works nights and I can't be bouncing around while he is sleeping plus my home is small. I do water aerobics 2 times a week and the treadmill and weight machines on the other days. In the summer I ride my bike for miles. I never could get into TV video's as I always felt self-concious. Even if I was alone, I do wish I was in a friendlier gym though. When I was in Curves they were so nice and supportive.

I love the gym. I especially love classes. I feel like I can get so much more out of a class than I can in the same amount of time when doing it alone. Also, the time goes by so much faster and I feel pressured to stay there and give it my all.
I take everything I can--Powerflex, Yoga, Step, Circuit Training, Spinning...whatever I can fit into my schedule. Plus, the variety is really great.
I have a free pass with Bally's right now, but that will expire soon. I'll probably sign up for the YMCA after that. |
