I once read an article by a fitness instructor and personal trainer, who wrote that the key to any sustained weight loss is the combination of exercise, weight-lifting and diet. Jenny Craig, the Zone, Weight Watchers or Cabbage Soup would never produce sustainable results unless you add the exercise element into the mix. Equally, if you do exerise, then probably just about any diet (though not all of them) will give you the results you need, so long as you are prepared to invest time and energy into it.
Bottom line is, diet on its own is not a sustainable long-term solution with regards to weight loss. |

Well My sister in law is on JC and she's lost 45lbs and has about 30lb more to go. For her...it's worked extremely well. She had a lot of weight to lose and she works 12 hours a day 6 days a week so she didn't have a lot of free time. She hates to cook, but has started to do it. It's also helped her when she goes to a restaurant in the sense that she makes much better food choices.
I'm not sure how she'll do once she stops being supplied with their food, but if you're busy and need convenience...it is a really good diet. |

Hi,
I just joined the South Beach forum. I was on JC from February to April (8 weeks total).
I lost 11 pounds the first 4 weeks. I gained 2 pounds the last 4 weeks. During that time I also increased my exercise (not enough to be gaining muscle). I increased my walking and water intake.
I did quit smoking on 2/3 and I also will be 40 in September. I think these 2 things factor in to my lack of progress.
The JC food was VERY good! I was starving all the time. I tried increasing all the free veggies/salad but after a while it gets old.
I didn't like my consultant at all. She was condescending and almost accusatory about why I was gaining - cheating, menopause (um not yet 50), I added an extra fat one day, I didn't eat enough another day.....
It was too frustrating. I also think the carb level is too high. I think it breaks down to 60% carbs.
I think for very large women it is great. I am 5'5 1/2" and 150 pounds. I would like to lose 25 pounds.
I am exactly at the weight I was when I left JC. I have been on South Beach 1 week so far. I find this a little easier without having to starve! I miss carbs but I will live. 8) |

| I did Jenny Craig many years ago and thought the food was so repulsive I would die. I don't know if the food has changed (it's been 10 years since I tried), but I wanted to mention my experience with it. |

| The Jenny Craig Program, isn't a bad program. I'm just not sure it was for me. THe food was okay, i got used to it. BUt I didn't do well with adding in salads and vegtables and other things. After doing the South Beach diet for a while, and loosing weight the JC diet has a much different version of how to loose weight. JC uses a lot of carbs and bread, which South Beach does not. It felt like I shouldn't be eating the stuff that was on the diet! Which is weird. It's a great method for some, but not all. I really liked SBD. But I did stop doing that and gained weight, so in the end: here i am again back on SBD! After quitting JC, I feel like a quitter! But I'm back on the horse. I also think that Kirstie Ally is obnoxious and she didn't loose 70 or 80 pounds! I think that flaunting it is too much! It's great she did well but we don't need to see her in a bikini! |

is enough to put me off it for life. Acting and dressing her age would be a great start at becoming less obnoxious.
It's plastic food. Plastic food isn't good for us. Any diet that depends on pre measured portions of plastic food isn't sustainable with real life in the long run.
Re the loss and regain syndrome..in the end, isn't it true that many diets prompt temporary weight loss, and only permanent lifestyle changes result in permanent weight control? |

I agree that many diets are very temporary and are fad diets. the thing is a lot of peopel don't healthy long lasting weight loss, they want quick and big results. Like drinks, drinking only liquids couldn't lsat that long. Or the 'cookie diet.'
But I actually wouldn't call jenny's food 'plastic.' I mean it tastes much better than any otehr frozen meals. My complaint is that at least 70% of the food is startches. |

| i do not think any of these diets that you have to buy their food are any good. you are not going to live on that stuff for the rest of your life. some day you are going to have to go out into the real world and eat real food. it is all about portion control and exersize. i am old school and i watch my calories. i do get tired of kristies advertisements but i do think she has come a long way BUT when she stops jenny craig betcha she gains it back. |
