Is anyone else having the problem with the forum that I am? Only here, on the SBD forum, sometimes I am getting hijacked to an ad page for SBD stuff, or other often diet-related ads. This happens sometimes when I click on a random forum or thread. Just started happening in the past 2 days.
Does anyone know what I can do about this? It's annoying. I run AOL over my sbc/dsl, use Spyware, a firewall, and Mcafee virus scan. |

You may have a deeper worm problem. I'd give the comp an enema. :P
Actually a cool fix you can do is totally update everything, then unplug your comp from the internet. Do a complete shutdown and unplug the power cord from the computer for at least 20 seconds. This will reset any temporary RAM info in the motherboard. Plug it back in and fire it up and do some scans, unplugged from the internet. Some viruses will diasble the updater functions from Macafee, Pest Patrol, and even Symantec. When you restart try running the virus scanner functions, and if that doesn't find a problem, plug back into the internet and see if the problem still persists.
If it does I would try a different anti-virus software. There is a pretty decent free ware called Spybot Search and Destroy. http://free-spybot.com They talk about it on Tech TV alot. I use Pest Patrol Corporate as I get it free from my parents.
Also if you are using Internet Explorer, it is well known to be an open door to hackers. It is the most easily exploited search engine out there. I use Firefox (aka Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox) as an internet device. It has a very well developed popup blocker and built in search engines, plus you can add on cool search tools, like Amazon, eBay, IMDB, and Dictionary. and they don't take up any extra header space. http://www.firefox.com/
Hopefully that might help a little. Computers are great when they are working great. They can be a real pain in the ass sometimes though. |

Are you up-to-date on your Microsoft products, i.e., security patches and updates? Go to Microsoft.com. Left hand side, Microsoft updates, click on that and go to "custom" and run everything it comes up with.
If that doesn't help, go to Adaware. This finds things microsoft and spybot don't. |

Thank you Zip and Lynda. I did as you both advised (on the premise of the more the better :D) and lo, no further hijacking today!
Now, if one of the moderators would be kind enough to move this to tech where it belongs, my life will be complete. |
