Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks!

i don't know anyone that's done it. i've looked at their meal planner:

http://www.bodyforlife.com/nutrition/createmeal.asp

and don't really see what's innovative about it (not that SBD is innovative).

if you eat correct portions of lean protein, complex carbs, vegetables, and unsaturated fats, then it should work regardless of what you name the diet.

I did it a few years ago and it worked while I did it, but I couldn't stick to it for more than abotu 3 months. I did it exactly as suggested in the book --- the eating and exercising together (changing intensity levels while exercising etc). The diet includes one completely "free" day a week on which you can eat literally anything you want all day long. For me, I like SB much better. Having a cheat day every week would make all my cravings return. That's probably why I couldn't stick to it long term.

I've posted a thread on this in the Fitness forum. I'm starting this program on the 7th, but slightly revising the BFL food list to be SB friendly for my own menus.

I'm thinking of this as a 'kick start' to get me moving and on track after going off SB since my wedding in July, and gaining back 10lbs.

I've always been a 6-meals-per-day person anyhow, so that's not much of a change, except I'll likely be eating more protein.

Its the workouts I am mainly interested in. It looks like a good exercise program to me, and will definitely increase my fitness level.

I haven't decided on the 'Free Day'... Maybe a free meal would be a better choice...

I do a combo of South Beach diet and Body for Life fitness. I find it a good long-term solution for myself.

I tried Body For Life (BFL) in 2004.

I went from 170lbs to 138lbs. It definitely works, but it is also A LOT of HARD work.

It is a sound program. I particularly like the focus on fitness. It did change my entire lifestyle.

Problem is: I'm now back to 154lbs. Sure that's a heck of a lot better than 170lbs- but BFL was not enough to sustain my weight loss for the long term.

My body got very used to BFL after a while. So what ended up happening was I still had to do all the hard work of BFL, and I didn't lose any more weight (which is very frustrating). In fact I even gained some of it back gradually over the last 2 years, hence the current 154lbs I am now.

I plan of doing what PapaBanucci stated: I will continue the exercise schedule of BFL, but introduce the eating plan of SBD. My metabolism needs a jumpstart, and hopefully the SBD will bring me to my goal weight of 134lbs. The BFL eating plan isn't working for me anymore.

I'm currently doing the 12-week BFL Challenge and am loving it, especially the workouts. I don't see it as hard but rather as stretching my perceived limitations. I see improvement with each workout. AND now I really look forward to my one day off of rest a week. I never appreciated a day off from working out like I do now. It feels well deserved. It also gives me a great sense of accomplishment and I am seeing results in the way my body shape is changing and with the weekly loss of inches.

my brother actually lost a lot of weight doing this diet and he loved it but thats all I know. he spent a year on it and lost 60lbs or something and managed to keep most of it off due to developed habits

My younger sister did it like 2 years ago and still kinda do it for the fitness plan. She was working out like crazy, eating on the plan and lost about 35lbs. She hasn't change her eatings habits and once she ditched the eating plan she started gaining weight even if she was still training very hard. She's very discouraged right now and I'm actually trying to make her understand that you have to do both healthy eating AND workout to make any diet work. You can't just eat whatever you want even if you do 6 workouts per week!

I think the fitness plan is good but as other posters said I would go with the SB meal plan instead.

like buffbride, I am also starting BFL after the end of my ph1 in SBD. I am also considering this a kick start. =)

I did BFL at the beginning of the year for 3 months before leaving for France and I felt better than I had my entire life.. even saw muscle definition.. I've never been defined before! It really puts you in a new state of mind about your body. I loved it and look forward to returning to it.
'
The only reason I stopped in the first place was
1. a trip to the UK and France and getting a little too experimental with French cooking when we returned
2. once returning, having to move out all of our excersice equipment while reflooring, which we will have finished this weekend! =)

body for life tracker has an awesome online community btw =)

I think I'm the only BfL/SBD cross-over person here, at least I've been the only person for the last 6 months or so.

Still doing both and have been doing both for almost a full year now. I don't check this forum very often. If you have any questions about BfL or a BfL/SBD combo, send me a PM.

Thanks!

I had a lot of success with BFL. The workouts are hard, but your body tones up so much. Plateauing is a very big problem with BLF. I got to the point where I could run 3 miles straight, but couldn't lose the last 15 pounds I wanted. I have now learned that I should have been varying my exercises as soon as one got easy for me. Same with the weightlifting part.

Although I never was my thinnest with BLF, I think I was in the best shape of my life. I am using the workout routine combined with SB this time. I think SB will help me get those last 15 pounds, (once I get back down to my post BFL weight)

I have also tried body for life and do enjoy the workout regimen. I found that it did provide me with a lot of muscle definition and although I didn't lose weight in numbers, my clothes fit better and i felt good. I do like the way portion control is emphasized since I would say eating too much even of a good thing can be my down fall. I find similarities between the diets in regards to how often it suggests to eat throughout the day and somewhat in the selection of foods. Although I just started the SB diet, I look forward to finishing trying SB for about a month and then I will think about incorporating components of BFL.

Sometimes I do like the "cheat" day with BFL, and I found that after a couple of weeks of having my one day, I didn't want it any more. I would get sick from too much sugar or too heavy of food and after a couple of times, I just maintained eating that way throughout the weeks. By taking away the Cheat day with BFL, this is also why I probably see similarities between BFL and SB.

I did this diet and it worked very well for about 3 months, then the workouts got to me. Working out 6 days a week is over kill in my opinion. I started doing a 5 day workout that was more beneficial. Cardio tue-thurs and weights mon-wed-fri. Once I stopped working out the fat came back. Plus my job was sitting down all day. Not a good mix. The BFL works and I think combined with SBD would be unstoppable. I think you could lose 15lbs a month on it.

I"m trying to do SBD with a fun workout type of routine. Rock climbing gym twice a week, sand volleyball 2 times a week, with a run in between, for fun kayak on the weekends or just rest. I'm getting the Wii fit soon so that can be my weekend teaser workout.

My step-dad did this, and he lost quite a bit of weight from it. He went from a 44 to a 34 in about a year and a half. Hubby and I have thought about doing it within SBD guidelines as myoplex shakes are disgusting. That actually brings up how my stepdad got into BFL...I had received some myoplex shake mix in HS for the football team (I was a manager for them, and the sports editor, so I got a lot of free stuff) and the football team HATED them. They liked their gatorade better, so I brought them home. Tried them, they were horrible. But step-dad liked them, and researched them online and discovered BFL.

He's put on some weight, he's up to a 38 now since I don't think he works out as much, but it worked well for him. Once my foot heals, I def. think hubby and I are going to dive more into it.
