I was just about to post the same link!

My DH sent this to me this morning and we were talking about it...

Here are my thoughts:

My favorite part of this article is a two-word sentence ~ Exercise helped.

LOL! Whatever!!!!!!!!!

And this part isn't true:

The one thing all diets have in common is that they restrict food, said Michael Goran, an obesity expert at the University of Southern California. Ultimately, that's why they usually fail, he said.

"At some point you want what you can't have," Goran said. Still, he said intuitive eating makes sense as a concept "if you know what you're doing."

On the Weight Watchers Diet, you can have "whatever you want" food-wise, you just have to count it as points. So, if you wanted a piece of chocolate cake, you could have it... it would just count against your points for the day. Although, WW's concept in making that part of the diet is probably to shy away from the subconcious food restrictions that a "normal" diet brings, which is what this article is talking about.

Overall, I think it's an interesting way of looking at it. I would think it would help people with disorders though more than the average person. Actually, it's kinda of an idealist way of thinking about it... because... well, DUH, food is to eat for when you're hungry! It's when people overeat and emotional eat is when they start to become obese.

But I think he needs to be a bit more specific on how exercise has helped him in a positive way and also, what foods he ate/eats when he's hungry! The article, IMO, is a little biased and wants you to think all you have to do is eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full and that's simply not the case for most people. Unless they have a great metabolism. ;) If all I did was eat when I'm hungry and stopped when I was full... but ate crap? Or even crap sometimes and good stuff sometimes? I would be a fat in no time!

Thanks for sharing the article. :) What do you think about it?

I think there has to be more to it. I think he has learned to discipline himself and definitely exercises. When I exercise, I know I do eat better.

Even on SB, if you really want a piece of cake, Dr A says have a bite.

It's an interesting idea. I can see how people would abuse it, though, and then they wouldn't lose any weight. I'd also wonder how his bloodwork is.
