Hello one and all. I am hear to tell you how I lost 40 pounds. I went from 250 to 210 in a matter of months. Keep in mind that I am 6'6" when pondering my weight. Now you may be asking yourself how did this man lose this weight and manage to keep it off. Well sit back and enjoy yourself while I regail you with my tale.

First off the name of my diet is the DD Diet. DD stands for Debilitating Depression. I know you are probably saying to yourself "Whenever I get depressed I eat a lot" well I am about to tell you how my two step programme will stop this from happening.

Step 1

Getting really depressed is the key. Most people try to feeel better when they are depressed this is the biggest mistake people make on the DD Diet. I used to make this same mistake myself by doing things like eating and entire bag or oreo's to ty and feel better. All this did was make me feel worse and ultimately want to eat more. The key to step one is feeling so god awful that you can't even find the motivation to eat. I would spend the day thinking about girls that have rejected me and things of that nature. Another great way to help your self along through step one is to only eat really bad tasting food. Half cooked plain white rice worked well for me. The crappy food will not only make you angry but it will help you sink deeper into depression and you will find that the deeper you sink the easier it is. Please keep in mind that you will not complete any goals in your life while on this diet. If done properly you should be laying around doing nothing all day and maybe every so often going out for a run just to remind you how worthless you really are. Once again you will find that both of these things will make you more depressed thusly making the diet easier. The only diet suppliments I recommend are cheap cigarettes and hard alcohol. These aren't really necessary they do help and I know I sound like a broken record here but if you think off the bad health implications brought on by these products you will only become more depressed. As a force multiplier when drunk from the alcohol you should be insanely depressed. One more thing that will help is listening to Elliot Smith. I have close to 7 hours of his music on my computer and I would just lay on my floor and listen to it all.

Now lets move on to step two...

Step 2

Dont drink pop, alcohol or milk.
Dont Eat fast, fried, or snack food.
Prepare all of your own meals... NO FROZEN MEALS!!!
NO REFINED SUGAR!
No caffeine.

Since on step 2 my diet is mainly made up of beans, cheese, meat, vegetables, and pasta.

All you have to do is eat food that is not processed.
Just eat like the natural animal that you are your body knows what it's doing. If you put natural things in your body you will feel better and you will look better.

Good Luck!

when i think about it, this is how most diets work.

the person is in denial to the point they become INSANELY depressed and then one day just snap and turn their life around.

First off, is this a joke? :|

Secondly, why not just skip to Step 2? ;) Why in the world would I want to make myself depressed?? :?

Just so you know... your "Step 2" is almost identical to the South Beach Diet. (Except for some minor things.) The SBD is also all about eating natural foods. I think I'll save my body from depression and all the negative things it could possibly go through while on your "Step 1", and just stay on the beach. :D

The idea wasn't that he purposefully made himself depressed, that was incidental. In doing all the wrong things to find happiness he spiraled further into depression.

I'm sure there's no shortage of success stories on these boards from people who started dieting because they looked in the mirror and said "I hate you, you fat !@#%."

So, it is quite tongue in cheek to say "Get depressed on purpose." but I'm sure you know what he means. Since that's what lead to ironclad determination for him, perhaps in some wierd way it'd work for others.

I guess the point is, if these kinds of things already depress you, start eating right.

pookiebear this is not a joke. It is what i did. As you may well know it is not possible to make yourself depressed just like it is not possible to make yourself happy. It just kind of has to happen and in my case i got just about as depressed as I could.

I disagree. One can make themselves happy or depressed. Now, there are situations that have more of a potential for you to experience joy or sorrow... but why is that when someone dies, some "take it better than others"? Why is it when a new baby comes into a couple's world... some people are happy and others are sad? Life is what you make of it. If you really want to, you could be sad about anything! You could also be happy about anything.

I saw an example done at a Tony Robins conference with this girl who said that she was depressed. Through a simple exercise by talking to her about her life and getting her to focus on what she was depressed about, he began to show her that it's all what she's focusing on and that she can take control of her emotions and her life. He then began to talk to her about happy times in her life and the things that have meaning and her whole countenance changed! :D It was amazing! This "depressed" girl was smiling, laughing and carrying on a pleasant conversation. I honestly and truely believe people get sad about things... but they don't have to stay sad. THAT decision is up to them.

I know you probably don't agree with me... but I'm just stating my opinion. And the reason I thought it was a joke is because people come on here all the time and have their VERY first post on this South Beach Diet Forum to be about a totally different diet. PLUS, I thought it was funny that you were telling people that getting really depressed is the key to a diet/losing weight, which, is actually counterdicting what you said about not being able to "make yourself" be depressed:

Quote: Getting really depressed is the key. Most people try to feeel better when they are depressed this is the biggest mistake people make on the DD Diet. That last sentance actually proves Tony Robin's point. You were trying to get yourself to think depressing thoughts, thus accomplishing your goal of being depressed!

So, did you invent this diet? :?

this diet, like i said, is a tongue in cheek caricature of what leads people to diet in many cases.

it is what even doctors refer to as a "moment of clarity." a moment in which someone realizes that they either no longer want to live this way or that if they continue to do so, they will die. They say Clarity because the person was lying to themself before.

A good manifesto is "to thine own self be true." This means not making excuses, or telling untruths to people. Like "I don't want to be skinny." if you obviously want to lose weight. "I don't want to stop smoking." when you know you do. "I don't want to stop drinking." when you only do it because you're depressed.

The moment of clarity is when you finally escape your own bull*$%#. And a great moment it is.

This caught my eye, as I also lost forty pounds.

Quote: I know you are probably saying to yourself "Whenever I get depressed I eat a lot"

I actually didn't say that to myself, believe it or not. But regardless, I've continued to read.

You seemed like you got pretty darn sad. I am quite surprised that this didn't affect you in other ways. But, I regress as I continue to read...

Quote: Dont drink pop, alcohol or milk.
Why not?
Pop isn't bad for you - pop in excess is. In fact, there are a lot of natural soda brews. It's also interesting that you say/write 'pop' instead of 'soda'... Being from America and all. Alcohol has it's benefits. And so does milk. I hope to the Lord that you get your anti-oxidents and calcium from other sources in this diet of yours.

Quote: Dont Eat fast, fried, or snack food.
I think an apple is pretty fast. I can easily open my fridge and grab one! Fried food isn't bad. Deep fried isn't the greatest.
And frankly, I would classify, say celery and peanut butter a snack, thus, why wouldn't you eat that?

Quote: Prepare all of your own meals... NO FROZEN MEALS!!!
Quite often, frozen veggies and fruits are fresher and healthier than fresh.

Quote: NO REFINED SUGAR!
I have to say I agree with this. But everything in moderation... I would never say 'no' to a treat if I wanted it.
Quote:
No caffeine.
Well, that's just ridiculous.

So you are promoting the paleo-diet? That is very healthy, yes, but you're just calling it your own thing because you were a little sad about lack of phone calls from girls?
