Does anyone drink regular coffee, and if so does it slow down your weight gain?

Thanks for asking this question cause I was going to do the same. Are we only allowed to drink decaf at all phases?

Some people find that caffeine stalls them - I am one of those who will take slower weightloss as long as I don't have to give up my coffee. It's really a YMMV (your mileage may vary) thing.

I think the reason why South Beach doesn't really want us to have caffeine in our diet is because it increases our appetite (it's an appetite stimulant). I feel like I cannot live without my cup of coffee, so I just make sure my appetite is in check all the time.

If caffeine is no good in a diet, why do all those diet pills have so much caffeine in them?

So does this mean no one knows?

Cause caffene in large doses acts like speed
remember a few years back a sprinter was done for to much caffeine in his swab.
I remember trying a weightloss pill that had oodles of caffeine in it .....I was like zip do the vacuming >> zip to the toilet >> do the mopping >> zip to the toilet >> zip over and wash the windows >> zip to the toilet....and so the day went I was exhausted by days end the house was sparkelling clean and I had pee'd a myself 2kg lighter......
dangerous stuff in large doses.
Your body becomes used to the doseage so you find yourself taking more and more to get the desired effect. I eventually gave the pills up when one day after taking 5 in one hit I had been to the toilet and walking back to my desk I could not remember if I had pulled my panties back up.

on another note, Caffeine does also leach the bones of calcium. Now if your gonna take a calcium suppliment take it at least an hour before or after you drink Caffeine.

some info I have found:

The caffeine in coffee has been shown to stimulate the pancreas to make insulin. insulin causes the body to store fat.

coffee also has a particular element that causes the body to retain fat and store it in the belly area.

for some reason tea doesn't have this same effect. it is better to drink black tea then coffee.

sorry if this disturbes all you coffee drinkers. I am one too. but have switched to tea except decafe coffee in the afternoon.

Hated to be the bearer of this news but hay it may save someone some pain and heartache not to mention fat.

Strangely, I have STARTED drinking a small coffee in the mornings since I started phase 2.

Not everyday, but a few times I week. I admit to enjoying the laxitive-type effect it has.

It has not slowed my weight-loss down at all - or perhaps it has, but I'm still losing...

I confess happily - I can't give it up and am using a 50-50 blend, and so far it hasn't hurt at all.

I have an iced coffee everyday (skim milk and splenda). About once or twice a week I'll allow myself a second caffinated beverage like a diet coke w/lime or another coffee.

I've lost 37 lbs since Mother's Day

Saturday I went to Foxwoods to play poker. Every time the drink waitress came by I grabbed a black coffee. I was so focused on poker I didn't realize I drank about 10 cups of coffee until it was too late.

I felt like crap physically and I felt over exausted mentally.

Before SBD, 10 coffees would have barely fazed me. It's the benefit of cutting back, the one cup actually wakes me up.

Do you recall whether decaf coffee also has that particular element?

I never gave up coffee, although I usually drink decaf at night, and still lost the weight. However, I haven't been able to get a flat belly and wonder now if that might be the reason.

Two recent studies done recently have linked decaf to breast cancer. Perhaps it is better to stick to the regular, but keep the amount in check?

Greetings everyone,
Newbie here....and going to be starting South Beach next week.

Sorry I'm late to the discussion on coffee/caffine, but I thought I'd chime in.

My main experience w/ this is from doing the Fat Flush Plan diet a couple years ago, which has a Phase1 that is similar to SB in that you need to detox....and caffine was a no-no.

As far as I have been able to figure, caffine doesn't serve much of a positive role in your life, other than to get you trapped in an endless cycle of getting more of it.

I kicked it 2yrs ago...and have been on decaf ever since. The first week or so you really drag, and get headaches. Caffine actually causes the blood vessles in your head to constrict, and caffine withdrawal headaches are nothing more than your blood vessels opening up and letting more blood into your system, so it's actually a good sign.

But anyway, once I kicked caffine, I had way more energy in the morning, and didn't feel like I "needed" my fix to wake up. It may suck at first, but seriously consider getting off the stuff....you'll feel so much better in the long run, and think of the money you'll save on overpriced trendy drinks at Starbucks!
