Hi all,
This is a great thread! I too, like so many others feel guilty when I talk about weight loss. I'm 44 years old, 5'7 and weigh 128 lbs. I'm usually wearing between a 4 and a 6 but at the beginning of the year I was feeling "tight" in all my clothes and needed to either buy some new ones (ugh) or do something! I know I gained at least an inch or two in hips so that just put me out of just about all my size 4-6 clothes. I joined a step class and that was great, however, I only maintained my weight rather than lost weight! Now that I've learned the South Beach way I understand why I was just keeing my weight at status quo! Talk about eating all the wrong foods! It's funny, when I was younger eating all those "wrong" foods was never a problem, but then along comes 40! What a difference a decade made for me. All of a sudden things just weren't as firm as before and a lot of stuff started to jiggle. And what's with the stomach pouch? Good golly is that disgusting or what!! Since starting South Beach in January I've dropped 10 pounds. My goal is to get to 123 lbs. I realize that's not too far, but that last five pounds seems to not want to come off! Thank you for starting this thread.

I'm raising a Leader Dog puppy this year so I'm usually up pretty early, so I'll be checking in every morning to see how everyone is doing! Have a great day!! (Now, if I can keep my hands out of the pistachio jar once I reach 30 nuts......)LOL

Hi all,

I started Phase I on Monday this week so this is day 4

Starting weight 140
Goal weight 130
5'6" - 49 years old.

The reason I selected SBD is because it's healthy. I ate way too many carbs and quite a few of the unhealthy kind.

My biggest wish is that I don't fall into the Low Carb processed food trap.

I lost 20 lbs 8 years ago on a low fat diet and found myself gravitating towards many products that were low fat, low sugar = not healthy.
You know the type: Diet fudgecycles, diet this, diet that....all chock full of chemicals.

I want to do this right.... whole, unprocessed foods, not low carb bars, low carb everything that I see advertized. I think those will defeat the purpose.

I've had a problem since Monday with constipation and it's a huge concern for me because I've had surgery for that in the past. So last night I had a 1/2 cup of Kashi high fiber cereal and will add that to my dayly regiment regarless of whether it's allowed in Phase I or not.

I think the key is to be reasonable and make it work and last for you.

I too, am a lifetimer at WW. Haven't been within 2 lbs in many years. I always had "points" in my brain, but not on my plate.

When I first started SBD I tried to combine a little of each diet. I drove myself CRAZY. It was so FREEING to drop the points and eat the SBD way until I was satisfied.

as far as METAMUCIL goes...I noticed once I started P2, and added some whole grain breads/pastas into my diet - I didn't need the extra help.

At first I was disappointed in not losing my belly fat fast enough, and suddenly I could swear it feels flatter!!

As for the metamucil - sure I've drank tastier things but its not that bad. I love orange flavored stuff and I add some sweetner so it goes down pretty easily.I just drink it with my am snack and again with my pm snack, keep the jar of stuff in my desk drawer. Plus, it's helping me increase my water intake, something I was struggling with anyway.

I commend all of you with work functions that involve food and sticking to your guns. It's not always just the temptation of the actual food but the people who are around who keep asking, aren't you going to have any? I hate saying, I'm not "allowed" so I try to just say it doesn't fit in with the eating habits I follow now. Trust me, I "cheat" here and there but I like to do it on my own terms, not due to peer pressure. My biggest guilty pleasure is pretty much doubling the ricotta dessert to one full cup instead of just half. And I know we are only supposed to stick with red wine but if I am having fish or chicken for dinner (which I am most of the time it seems!) I like to have white wine...so I do!

Everyone on here seems so motivated and focused, I'm really impressed with the resolution of each of you. Thank you for the support and all the great ideas I've come across on this board.

Well I finally weighed in after 7 days on SBD. And I lost an amazing.........
6.2lbs.
I am so excited. I really followed the diet to a "t". I didn't really excersise, so that is my goal for this week. I will continue to do phase 1 for 1 more week and then off to phase 2.

Roc8man - GREAT JOB, doesn't it feel great? Your goals are similar to mine (and height is the same). I will tell you, exercise makes a difference! You have shaken up your metabolism now (a good thing!) with the new way of eating you have adopted so exercise is exactly what your body needs. Congratulations! :)

at the risk of sounding redundant, i'm so glad i found this thread!

about me: i'm about 5'5", and I started 2 1/2 weeks ago at about 155 lbs. since then i have lost 5 lbs and my once-snug size 10 clothing is has all become rather loose! and this with a few glasses of red wine here and there, and nearly no carb cravings anymore.

my goal is to get back into size 6/8 clothing, and so far i'm progressing nicely (pat myself on the back) on phsae 1, but i have a question:

i had thought about sticking to phase 1 until i drop another 5-10 lbs or so, but i don't know if that's healthy???? for those of us with 10-15 lbs to lose, whats the best (and quickest) way to go about it while still being healthy? i do walk a lot, so i am getting exercise.

tia!

Hi mimouna. 5 lbs. is great! Congrats! From reading these boards, it seems that those who extend P1 don't lose too much more than those who go ahead and start P2. I lost 3.5 lbs the first week and NADA the second week of P1 - so I decided to go ahead and start P2. I try to only weigh-in on Mondays, so I don't know if this was a good choice or not - but after adding in fruit, I haven't seen any increase in carb cravings, so that is good.

I think the book says the max time to stay on P1 is 4 weeks, so health-wise, you should be fine if you want to continue. I was just so sick of eggs and cheese that I had to branch out into P2. Good luck!

That is the main reason to progress into phase 2 , boredom with the food. I went into phase 2 after 2 weeks though and found that I started gaining weight after I added wheat bread and fruits, so I went back to phase 1 and then after a week or so started adding 1 good carb a week. I found that every time I have tried to add wheat bread or cereal it sparks huge carb cravings. I have successfully added apples and strawberries though. I am ok with a limited diet. The less choices I have the less chance of me getting out of control....lol and I love eggs and cheese and nuts and the ricotta :)

I'm with you Patty - I also love eggs/nuts/cheese/RICOTTA mmmm :). I stay on P1 for 4 wks but the weight I lost in P1 was all in the first 10 days. Then I stalled so I edged myself into P2. I haven't had any carb cravings really but I haven't added back any type of bread or pasta. The only grains I have are OF oatmeal and Uncle Sam. As far as fruit I have added back strawberries, pears, and green apples but I always have them with something (apples w/ pb, pear w/ cottage cheese etc) b/c it's good to block the carb absorption with some fat (like Dr. A's theory on eating a roll w/ butter is better than the roll plain). I only have one serving of fruit a day and I only do oatmeal or U.Sam's every other day. In my experience staying in P1 longer to drop more weight faster doesn't work. Good luck!

Thanks allihoo28, Patty and Taurus7237 for your input.

This is the first diet I have ever tried (my weight gain was due to quitting smoking), so any and all advice is so helpful.

Everyone on this board is doing so well -- congrats to everyone! And you are all so helpful.

Cheers!

Congrats on stopping smoking! I quit 5 years ago and a few of my pounds are from that. Way to go!

So are we all game for our first "weigh in" on this Mon.? I think Mon.'s good so we are more conscious of our weekend choices :? !

Hope, are you doing better? Back on track somewhat? I felt so terribly crappy too. It's crazy how mental it can be when you screw up! The whole PMS thing makes it that much worse too.

I did the metamucil thing yesterday and you guys are going to think I'm a freak because I actually liked it!!! Maybe I'm crazy but it made me think i was drinking juice. Doesn't taste nearly as good as orange juice, but it wasn't terrible at all. And like Taurus had mentioned, it does help with the water intake throughout the day. I also got on my treadmill just for 2 miles, but I was sweating which is always a good feeling. It's going to be near 80 degrees today, so I will try to get out and exercise.

We're having company over to grill out and i'm making the New york style cheesecake with the ground almonds as the crust! I can't wait!

have a great weekend fellow little losers!
