Hi! I was thinking maybe we could start a thread for us "little losers" - ie., people that only have 10-15 total pounds to lose. I know it is tough, and thought maybe we could support each other through it.
I am on the 4th week on the diet - did Phase 1 for about 16 days - now am adding a little sprouted bread, fruit, and wine back to my diet so far, kind of rotating day to day which one I put in. Today it is fruit - blueberries!! We had a champagne brunch yesterday that was clearly not on the diet - but I didn't go completely overboard and today was actually down .2 pounds from yesterday - yes I am a compulsive weigher! I figure I have averaged 1 pound per week so far, so if I can just stick to it for ten more weeks...
What is your story?? I hope you will join the club!

I'm in! There is another thread that is similar that you may want to check out...
http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4258
I posted there too, but here is my story:
31, 5'4", female
Started SBD on 3/8/04
Starting Weight: 127
Week 1: 123.5
Week 2: 124 (ugh! wrong direction!) :x
Goal: 118
My husband and I just started P2 today - but I am planning to start P2 very slowly. Good luck - it is always nice to know there are others out there in similar situations. Thanks! |

I feel like one of those people who gets in the ten or less express lane with twelve items. I would love to join.
Female
began SBD march 14 2004
beginning weight: 170
week one/phase one:164
Goal:150
I decided to go on this diet because my Grandmother and my Grandfather both died from heart failure. My Grandmother passed last week. I have great kids and I want to be around for a long time.
I like it that this diet was created by a cardiologist. I am normally a small person. I wieghed between 98 and 112 pounds until I was married. When I had children they each added 20 pounds to me. Not hung up about it as much as I am worried about the health effects.
I am hoping I will get some energy back after phase 1 and I will be a little more active. I feel like I have no energy and I am so grouchy.
The greatest part so far is my PMS cravings usually involve bags of chips and stolen cookies from the cookie jar. I once ate a whole box of See's candy. This time, for the first time it was half of a sugar free zero carb chocolate bar and some extra nuts. Not bad, no guilt.
Oh yea and my skin looks great, must be all the water. Half way done with phase 1...Starting to think I might add an extra week of phase 1?

Hi, I'd like to join your group.
I started SBD on March 1 and I am gradually going into Phase 2.
I am adding some fruit and some whole wheat english muffins so far.
Age 41
5'5"
Starting weight 163 pounds
Now weigh about 155 to 152 depending on the day?
My goal weight is 140. I have not weighed that for 8 years. That is when I started having kids.
I have noticed that I am starting to crave more food now and I have to really stop myself.
Salads have always been one of my favorite things so that is why I liked this diet but now I am getting kind of sick of them.
No one else in my family is on this diet and I am in the kitchen cooking all the time, something different for everyone.
So I need help to stick with it because it is getting harder. |

Count me in! I've been on it since Feb 16th and had an awful time this past weekend! I was very bad!!! My daughter's 4th birtday party was Sat. and I went nutso on making food for the grown ups which I totally indulged in as well. Uggggh! I've been doing so well until this major mishap. Oh well.....moving on.....I can't dwell on it anymore. So here's my stats thus far....
5'4"
starting weight 132
weight as of 3/20 (before slip up) 126
too scared to weigh myself to date!!!! I'll wait until Wed. (I'm a compulsive weigher as well!)
Goal weight 118-120
I would love to keep each other posted with our progress. It's motivating to hear from others with similar stats! Good luck everyone....

Hi- would love to join you all for support, it seems like it comes off very slowly when you are trying to lose about 15 lbs. Here are my stats.
Started SBD March 9th. My last day of phase 1 is today, but I am only planning on adding back in one carb item a day for now and hopefully have it in the AM.
Beginning weight: 130
Current weight: 126
Goal weight: 110-115
I am getting married in August so I have about 4-5 months. |

Gabriell - I am sorry to hear about your grandmother. Your post brings up an important point that we often forget about as we get so focused on weight loss - the health benefits of SBD. Thank you for that reminder - if I get discouraged with the scale, at least I know that I am doing my body a favor by eating this way.
bride2b - I should have done this before my wedding too! I got married last August - what is your date? Congratulations! I just started P2 as well, and just wanted to mention that you might want to add that carb in later in the day. That way, if it does trigger any cravings, you won't have to fight them the entire day. Good luck! |

Great - I am glad to find some other people with just a (difficult) bit to lose!
Alihoo - thanks for the other link! Maybe I should have started this over there - but oh well, we are here now! :)
Gabriell - I was SO grouchy during Phase 1 as well! And I know my energy has been not as high either - I am almost forcing myself to eat some carbs now - I really could go on with P1 - but I dont think it is good to do that. This morning I had sprouted bread toast! My Condolesnces for your grandmother. Nice going on the PMS - I still had a chocolate cookie craving, but didn't act on it.
Postiegirl - I hope we can help keep you motivated. I also got sick of salads - just the lettuce - so I started just eating the other stuff - chopped cucumbers, peppers, onions, etc. Mostly mixed with tuna or hummus or both.
Kate - are you getting back on track? You've been on it for awhile - so a slip up is understandable - let us know how the weigh -in goes tomorrow!
Bride2b - congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Keep us posted - how tall are you?
I was still at 131.0 today but that is fine - it seems from experience that I know I have to work hard at it for several days in a row before I see a result. Yesterday I went to Curves, took a brisk 35 min walk, and did my ab crunches - plus the only carbs were blueberries - I was hungry in bed though, so I am going to try to progress a little more toward P2 eating today. I have a diet journal too - if I have time to get there.
Good luck everyone!

I'm in!
My story is a LOT like kate's. I started February 17th, so I'm five weeks in now. My daughter's 7th birthday was Saturday and I had pizza and cake. Since it was pretty much planned (I didn't want to miss out on her big day), I didn't feel too guilty. I've managed to resist the leftover cake in the fridge since then.
So, here's me:
Height: 5' 5"
Starting weight: 153
Current weight: 143
Goal weight: 135-140
I am also a compulsive weigher, which has caused me to be discouraged sometimes during the week because I tend to weigh more the morning after a tough workout. The overall result has been positive, though. I started the plan struggling to wear my 6's, but now I'm comfortable in my 4's again.
It's funny how losing a little can be a lot more discouraging than losing a lot. I lost about 45 pounds in 2001, primarily through exercise. It seemed to come off really quickly once I got my metabolism going, and as long as I was exercising I kept it off. I kind of got off track for awhile, and gained about 8 of them back. 140 was my weight my freshman year of college, when I considered myself to be in the best shape of my life, so that's my first goal. I'm going to evaluate things then and see if I should continue or maintain.
Gabrill - I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, but congratulations on your willingness to learn from your life experiences.
bride2b - congrats on your wedding and on your loss so far. Sounds like you're doing great! Don't get discouraged if it slows down a little. I lost 7 pounds in the first week, sat at the same weight for the next two, and have lost another 3 in the last two weeks. Keep at it no matter what.
jfaz1107 - thanks for starting this thread! It always helps to have people in the same boat.
One thought that has kept me going: Nothing tastes as good as feeling good feels! :) Have a good one! |

I want to drop about 10-15 pounds. I am 5'10, weight is around 150 and this is only day 2. I am more concerned about clothing size than acutal weight though. I am a 8 now but all of my clothes are a 6. I want to be a slim 6 again which is perfect for my height. I was just diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance which is the reason for the weight I gained I was told and the reason for this diet.
I am having a tough time...am very hungry. But all I used to eat were carbs. I was told that I can eat more of the allowed stuff than is shown on the sample menu as long as it is allowed. A popsicle here and there during the day or fat free jello is helping on the second day. When will the fuzzy head feeling and the grogginess begin to subside? I slept terribly last night.
<SIGH> I keep remembering this will all pay off. |

Here's my long story - I'm 5'5" and 134lbs and I have another 10 lbs to lose (due to nasty infertility treatments & major estrogen dosages :x yuck!!) BTW I'm happy to say I'm adopting a baby girl from Russia now and hopefully I'll have this 'extra baggage' gone before she comes home!! :)
Ok - I started 'dieting' Jan 1 at 143 lbs, and lost a few pounds just by watching what I ate. I actually started SBD about 5 weeks ago and I'm now at 134 BUT I have not been faithful to my SBD  I am an admitted slacker and cheater!! What is the best way to get back on track? Is it fine to just keep reverting back to phase I or will I lose the benefits of it? I realize I won't lose the quick 6 lbs I lost when I started Phase I the first time... but I have not dropped a single pound on Phase II yet (after three weeks) It's hard to stay motivated. I also go to Curves three times per week and walk when it's nice out, but I live in MN so this time of year is pretty unpredictible. I need motivation!!!!

Congratulations on your adoption, jtraut! :D Keep plugging away - the plateaus eventually end and you will make progress. I don't think there's any harm in reverting to P1, but I don't know that it would be as beneficial if you've been on for awhile. The primary benefit of P1 is the carb "detox". Once you get past that, I think slow and steady is the best bet. As far as motivation - what's your currency? If you're looking to drop the weight by the time your baby girl comes home, maybe something that would remind you of her? I don't know if you have a picture that you could tape to the fridge or keep with you, a letter that you received saying everything was all set, or something else. Find something that's more important to you than food, and use that as your deterrent.
dananichole - you can have more than just what's listed on the menus (I've never even used one), but be careful to control portions and listen to your body. You have to give it time to digest before assuming your hunger hasn't been satisfied. The hunger you're feeling may just be your carb cravings. There's a lot of info on this forum about that, but the basic idea is that your body will send out hunger signals because it's looking for a quick fix from the carbs it's used to getting. As long as you're snacking on approved foods and breaking that dependence, you should be okay and should get past those feelings shortly. Just be sure to spread it out and give your body time to process. |

I almost hate to post here .....lol Everytime I find a thread I like and post everyone else stops posting......haha But, here goes.
I started at 150 pounds about 6 weeks ago and lost 6 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I went to phase 2 and gained a couple pounds and now am back to Phase 1 and 144. I keep floating around there, although I did see 143.4 on Sunday! I am staying on Phase 1 with the exception of some fruit. I have added strawberries and apples with no change so I will stick with them. I hope to get to 140 which leaves me 4 more pounds!
Good luck everyone!

Hey everyone! It's so nice to see us all in similar situations. This PMS totally sucks! My period has been all screwed up since starting SB. I've been having it 2x per month even though I'm on the pill and it's so aggrivating. The cravings have been wicked this go around. I'm sure my over indulgent weekend didn't help the cravings at all. It's a new day today and for that I'm grateful. Yesterday I had no luck getting back on track whatsoever. So today I'm starting fresh and strict. Back to phase 1 for a while for me. Wish me luck...I need all the encouragement I can get right now. I was so upset with myself last night because I've worked so hard on this plan and I felt like I tossed it all out the window. I hopped on the scale this morning and was not pleased. It read 130.5. My lowest weight since starting SB was 125.5! I was averaging 126-127 so I've got my work cut out for me. My goal is still 118. I'm hoping that my period is causing a little bit of the weight fluctuation as well. Okay... enough whinning....off to boil some eggs for brekkie! Have a great day little losers!
