| I have tried ww for over a year now, and a couple months ago did sbd, I lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks of ph1. I think I went to long on ph1 and just caved into the carbs. I craved them, the popcorn, a sandwich with bread. I just went into a frenzy, I thought many times of counting my points doing the sbd, but in my head I got over the points, and the obsession of counting points and what I can and can't eat and literally ate all the protein and veggies I wanted. Well after the 3 weeks I gained my weight back and then some, once again a failure on the sbd. Do you just keep track of your points and eat the south beach way? My question has always been to my self maybe I'm eating to much of the protein and my body isn't metabolising it fast enough. I'm 44 and going through the change, I just started harmones. I need to now loose 20 pounds. I think incorporating the 2 might be the trick for me. My points are supposed to be 20 a day, and i never used my flex, it was just to easy to eat fritos and eat all the carbs I wanted as long as I was in my point range. Doing the SBD I now know what the carbs are doing to my insulin level. But, I still love my popcorn I don't think I will ever give that up. I will give the points a try once again. |

Hi everyone -
I was happy to find this thread. I have been on SBD since March 1, and lost 10 out of 15 pounds I am shooting for. I have recently decided to go to WW because I was feeling very deprived food-wise. I like the idea of WW allowing an occasional bagel or ice cream treat. I love the idea of counting points and think it is very revealing that a 6 oz. steak is 12.5 points while a 6 oz filet of fish is only 4 points. That would explain why I've lost so slowly on SBD! Anyway - I am just day 3 into WW but very very excited about it - and especially about taking the best from both! If it is true that WW is reorganizing their plan again to be more in line with SBD - that would be even better!
Best wishes everyone!

| Weight Watchers worked fine for me for the first 8 lbs or so...then my points dropped to 20. I would save my points throughout the day for carbs (and sweets) and still be hungry...I am so much happier on SBD because of the lack of hunger pains. :) |

I am in day 2 of SB, and so far not too bad; I did WW for almost 2 yrs. and lost 30-35 lbs. but gained some back and then lost some, i have now gained almost 11lbs. since Oct. 2004, I actually gained 3 lbs. during the week of Christmas and thats' why i am trying the SB diet. I was just tired of counting points and writing everything down, even though that worked well for me for a while, it wasn't always convenient to keep track everyday, and if i didn't write everything down then i would foget what all i had to eat and lose track of my points. But there again, I was getting bored with having to do just that; writting EVERYTHING down and counting points wasn't working for me anymore. Now don't get me wrong, I still love what WW teaches and they really do work if you stick with the program, but I was just ready for a change, i have heard great things about SB and think that it will really work for me, the hardest part is the 2 weeks w/o any wine. But I know that i can do it.
Just wanted to post a reply to say hello :D

|

| I have been a WW member off/on since the early 70's. Normally, WW works for me. The last time I rejoined WW's I lost some weight but I didn't reach my goal. I got tired of the instructor actually, I got to were I dreaded going to the meetings because the leader was boring and did not lead the group with any ump!! My attitude was why should I keeping paying to listen to the most boring leader in the world and still not lose weight - so I decided since she couldn't motivate me I needed to motivate myself so that is what I did. The bottom line is no matter what -you must motivate yourself. So I went on SB and lost from 168 to 158 on my on. During the holidays I gained it back BUT the thought of going to a class listening to some person tell me what I need to do - well I just can't handle that right now. (I want to get to 150 or 155). Additionally, I went to join LA weight lost to support my sister but they wanted - get this 460.00 for me to lose 13/18 pounds. I went on Jan. 1 and they were closed so I went back on Jan. 3 because I really wanted to lose and support my sister but the personnel were not professional and two of the counselors were MORBIDLY OBESE sooo I decided to just go back on the Beach. I weighed 169 this a.m. and I'm going to get down to at least 155. I exercise moderately and I've toned up quite a bit. Anyway, I'm sorry to ramble on and on but I decided today that I'm no longer just goin to read the post. From here on out I'm going to participate and I'm hoping that it will help me stay motivated. Well I better sign off for now or else I want have anything to say the next time. I LOVE THE BEACH!!!!! |

| I lost 65 pounds with WW. They taught me portion control and basic nutrition. However, my hyperinsulinemia and PCOS ranged out of control because I could eat all of the bad carbs I wanted as long as I "counted" them. I also just got plain ol' tired of weighing my chicken breast and measuring my beans... and good fats are counted the same as bad fats. Even with the new Core program, I feel they're in the nutritional dark ages. |

| When I changed from WW to SB, I counted the points I was eating and it worked very well for me. To my total surprise, I found I had more food on SB, but was eating less points. BP and Cholesterol levels have improved since SB, but did not budge on WW. |

Pardon my rant, but I have real issues with Weight Watchers.
I have struggled with my weight my entire life. When I was 21, I weighed 140 pounds. A friend took me along to a meeting saying, "It worked for me - I'm sure it will work for you.'' I stuck to the program to the letter for 10 weeks and guess how much I lost? Half a pound! The leader's attitude seemed to be "Just get lost lady, we don't want you here." I have since met several women with a similar story - they just couldn't lose weight with WW. (OK, that was back in the 70's and there wasn't so much emphasis on exercise then, or recognition of the link between weight loss and exercise.)
By then I was pretty much resigned to being overweight. I controlled my weight through periodic fasting, which of course, only slowed my metabolism further and made it even harder to lose weight. By the time I was in my mid-40s, I was well over 200 pounds (I'm only 5 foot 3"). Then I slowly dropped to 150 pounds with a low-fat diet and Xenical. Then my weight loss stopped so I started doing cardio and quickly got down to about 130 pounds. Then my weight loss stopped again, so I started Pump classes (in addition to the cardio). My weight stayed exactly the same but I quickly dropped two dress sizes. By now I was continually frustrated by that extra 10 pounds or so of fat which wouldn't budge, despite a very intensive exercise regime and a low-fat, Weight Watchers style of eating.
Then I read the SB book and it all made sense! It wasn't the fat that was keeping me fat - it was all the sugar in my Weight Watchers cereal, 97% fat free salad dressing, etc, etc.
If people can lose weight on WW, good for them, but the program is still pushing products and recipes full of sugar and refined flour. It just DOESN'T work for everyone. I wonder how many other people are out there, wondering why they are can't lose weight on a supposedly healthy low-fat diet?
Rant over. |

After losing 25 pounds on SB and then stalling for months, I thought WW would help me with the accountability factor (weighing in every week and recording it) and with portion control. Plus, I didn't know what it was like and thought I could get some ideas for recipes, etc. After yesterday's meeting, and reading the label of one of the snack bars they sell, this will be my last 10 week session. The first two ingredients on the label were corn syrup and sugar! I told my friend "you shouldn't eat anything where the first two ingredients are corn syrup and sugar!" and she said "it's only 2 points!" Ok, that's it for me, I'm not gaining any knowledge and spending good money to waste my time! I guess it works for others, but it seems to be undoing all the good nutritional basics I've learned on SB. I just sit there trying to keep my mouth shut and not put down the program when they say something nutritionally unsound.
This is just my opinion, hopefully I won't get blasted by any WW fans. |

Quote: I told my friend "you shouldn't eat anything where the first two ingredients are corn syrup and sugar!" and she said "it's only 2 points!"
I hear what you're saying, Northerner! I saw in a recent WW magazine "Krispy Kreme donuts have arrived in Australia. And the good news is, a plain donut has only 3 points!" Huh? A deep fried, sugary donut accounts for only 3/20 of your daily food intake? And why would anyone who was trying to get healthier and eat well even WANT to eat a donut?
WW is all about marketing. "Eat your favourite foods and still lose weight" is a hell of a lot more appealing than "Losing weight is really hard for some people, and if you want to lose weight and keep it off, you'll have to rethink everything you put in your mouth".
When I started SB, I went through my recipe file and was horrified  at how much sugar is in the WW recipies. Guess I won't be renewing my subscription to their magazine!
Sorry, I'll have some soothing herbal tea now. |

| I did WW many years ago, then tried again with the new point system. It was just too confusing. I tried low fat diet, Bob Greene's makeover diet, I journaled, you name it, I did it. I gave up! I have been on blood pressure medication for about 3 years now. I went to see my doctor about renewing the rx but saw a CRNP, (Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner), instead. She said, "You need to lose weight." Duh! Tell me something I don't know. So she says to do the BEACH! Okie, dokie! So I do the BEACH! Been there since Feb 4, 2006 and today is April 14, 2006. I went from 207 to 183.5 in a little over 9 nine weeks. Blood pressure went from 140/90 to 99/62! (Still on the blood pressure rx). Will have to go back to CRNP VERY SOON to see about reducing blood pressure meds. Sugar went from 103 to 93. But best of all, my cravings are totally gone! For the first time in my life I am EATING and not STARVING! I have oatmeal in the a.m. w/banana; a big salad w/grilled chicken and just olive oil to top it off. Then for dinner I eat lean meats or fish plus plenty of veggies. Besides I eat fruits for snack in between the meals and drink plenty of water. I would like to get down to 140/150 pounds and I know I will eating this way for life. Too bad SBD wasn't around years ago. Not bad for an post-M lady at 55. blo |

Hi girls,
I was pleased to read several people are doing what I'm trying to do! I am IR and have PCOS so need to cut on carbs! My question and frustration with combining the programs is that protein really uses up a lot of points so how are you ladies managing that! It seems like by the end of the day I've already run out of pts because I've used most of them on protein that I am sometimes still hungry. Any tips!
Also I just started so I feel like a truck ran over me is that normal at the beginning! I'm I guess doing the P2 I haven't completely cut out the carbs but am watching what kinds I eat! Any tips? I am also on Glucophage not sure if that is making it worse but I'm very lethargic, have a headache and just feel like sleeping because I feel so horrible!
Any advice would be appreciated!
