From WW to SBD, anybody else?

DaddyKevin

I did o.k. on Weight Watchers. It taught me to eat my veggies and fruit--something I NEVER did, and helped me get ahold of portion size. I managed to lose 10% of my body weight with WW, and then stuck right there for over a year. Very discouraging.

I'm just now trying SBD because my boss did so well, and has kept it off. She's a great model for me of how to work this plan. I am also here because the book made so much sense to me--and I have a family history of heart problems, as well as diabetes.

I want to be around for a long time.

Anyway, I've been in Phase one for four days now, and have lost 5 pounds already (I know, I shouldn't weigh yet). What is interesting for me is that at the end of the previous three days, I added up what I had eaten, and what points that would have cost me doing WW only, and I'd be right AT my points level. So I think this is very doable. I let SBD help me focus on the right carbs to eat, and can use WW to help me monitor my portions. I find them both very compatible.

So far.

Glad to be here with you all.

This has got to be one of the more interesting and informative threads on this forum. It's nice to read about the experiences of others with the two plans and NOT see anyone get derogatory towards one plan or the other. It's also nice to read about successes with one plan or the other or a combo of both.

It appears some people have found a new way to adopt their eating plan by reading about how successfully the combination of both plans is working for others. To me, this is the best compliment to the people who created this Board. Kudos to everyone who has participated! :)

To VegasGail and Mags7461, after 24 years on WW, I have switched to SB because I too feel WW has failed me since they changed to "anything goes as long as you stay within your points". In 1972 they allowed only small amounts of high-carb food (not always the best ones) and I lost and maintained my weight. I know I have a problem with high carb choices and after only a few days on Ph2, I have no cravings. I started on Ph2 because I had a cupboard full of expensive fruit that I wanted to use up, but will do Ph1 over the next two weeks. Should be easy now that I am no longer craving carbs and those oh so wonderful 2 point slimfast bars. I thought I would never get over wanting them, but after only a week on SB, I have absolutely no desire for them. Amazing!! By the way, I broke a year-long pleatuea and lost three pounds this past week.

I am so glad I found this site. I have done WW twice, and both times lost my 10%. But than I get bored and start cheating and have a hard time getting back. This time I started in Jan. and did well until Spring break and haven't been able to get back on it. I've gained back about half of my loss which is what always happens. I found I do well during the week but have a hard time following on weekends. I bought the SB books last week just to educate myself about hypoglycemia, etc. I am planning to shop for the week today, and start phase 1 tomorrow. But I still wanted to follow the WW points to regulate my portion control, but eat more healthy foods. Yet everyone I talked to said they didn't know how I could do both. So it is great to hear your successes.

I also began with WW-did very well, lost 22 lbs. Kept it off for two years. But I did notice that some foods triggered binges for me. For the most part this did not put weight back on, I'd binge 1 day a week, then be careful with my points the other days. Also, I spent many days at 11 points because I weighed 118, and more points than that I gained weight(HUNGRY!). Eventually I began to binge 2, then 3 days a week, and managed to gain back 10 lbs. Began SBD in April, lost all my weight again. No more binges!!!!! Not hungry any more. I still keep track of points in my head, a hard habit to break, but I keep closer to 20 points now. Never have that sick I-can't-believe-I-wasted-my-points-on-THAT feeling. YAY!

Well I am another one that is glad I found this post. I just joined this forum today, while checking out SB.

I have been doing WW also, and have the same problems you all have, those trigger foods, that make me just lose it. Then I am constantly starting over. BUT, I was afraid to lose the concept of having a cap on the food I can eat, like for instance counting my points, I dont want to eat to much of what I can have. Make sense?

I think I am going to go ahead and try SB, but also combine it with WW. Just get rid of all the bad carbs in my diet, I am also one of those people that will eat 4 skinny cows cause they are only two points...

I had to laugh about eating 4 skinny cows because they are only 2 points each. That is me to the max. And it is also what motivated me to move to SB. My boss says that after being on SB for a few months, she doesn't even crave french fries and bread anymore. That's what I want. I want to stop the bad habit of eating nothing but veggies all day so I can have french fries and ice cream for dinner. Yeah, I was on point, but still not eating healthily. So I'm hoping that SB will help me re-arrange my eating habits, and teach me to eat healthier, and that, combined with WW will help me not only lose weight, but get healthier (especially get some cleaner arteries out of the deal!!!) :D

LOL DaddyKevin!

Its TRUE!!! Causse like they say, you can eat whatever you want, as long as you dont go over your points.

And, I didnt even feel guilty!

Just for the record,
I've done WW for at least 2 years, off and on. (9 months was the longest time.)

For me, the "eat whatever you want, as long as it's in the points" just didn't work. Unless you count the day where I had 9 Tootsie Pops (1pt each) as a "good diet day"......

With SBD, I've so far been able to train myself away from the cravings. I'm finding it easier to fill up "within my points" eating the SBD way.

ALSO---It is my sincere opinion that the WW points ranges are about 300-500calories too low. I was thrown into "fasting" mode a lot on that diet.

Okay, I know the familiar saying on WW, "Eat anything you want, just stay within your POINTS" But come on, you have to have some common sense about it. Surely, people must know that one cannot sit down and fill up on junk food all day (even though you stay within your POINTS) and still be healthy and lose weight. That's just not reasonable.

It's just like low fat and fat free foods... some people say that they are not all they're cracked up to be. That may be true to some extent. But it's when we start thinking we can eat a whole package of fat free cookies just because they're fat free, we start to have a problem.

True, but if I have 6 points to burn, despite wether or not I have eaten healthy food all day and wanted ice cream, I could choose to eat those skinny cow ice creams, or 1/2 cup of Ben and Jerrys, which would cost me more points anyway. There is no difference. And in no way did I say "sit down and eat junk food all day", of course thats ridiculous.

In my opinion, if you eat sensibly... say 95% of the time, there is nothing wrong with one of those Skinny Cow ice cream bars or even a bowl of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. A couple of those cannot override a week's worth of healthy eating.

And as for the "junk food all day" comment, I was referring to replies such as the one where someone said that they could sit down and eat 4 Skinny Cows, often in a row or 9 Tootsie Pops in one day.

Hi,
I'm brand new to SB (waiting for the book to arrive) but I'm a Lifetime Member of WW (37 yrs). I used to lecture classes many moons ago and I have to agree that I don't like the point system. I lost 104 lbs and except for the 10 I have put back on, have kept it off. I can't seem to make the point system work for me to get the weight off. I have a feeling that SB would be more to my liking. Looking forward to getting started as soon as I know what I'm supposed to do.

Like some others, I'm doing both right now.

I'm using the points tracker, but with only SBD allowed foods.

It forces me to account for everything I eat, and gives me an added incentive to work out. Plus I like the weight tracking and support available.

I'm an analytical person. Having the numerical values for everything gives me far more incentive to stay on track than vague "Enjoy limited amounts of...." instructions.

I am doing the same as Myrealana. I guess I just don't trust myself enough to not record what I eat. It keeps me aware of what I am putting in my mouth and it gives me a record for reference in the future. After 35 yers on WW it no longer worked for me either because of the points sytem as it is used today. I am bitter about the promotion of low point (low-fat) products, many containing trans fats. I have experienced a rise in chlrosterol due to the way I was eating and I feel SB will correct that. A blood test in a few weeks will tell all!
