| I've been doing Weight Watchers for years now (and I should add years & years). But I do okay for a while, I have some sucess and than think I know what to do, but fail to do it. Apparently it's not a eating life style I can stick with and have sucess so I thought I'd try SBD. This is day two for me and so far so good. We will see. I've heard if your coming from one diet directly over to SBD that you won't see the results in Phase 1 that someone jsut startign may see. Anyone have any experince with that? :?: |

| I'm doing the EXACT opposite of what you're doing. I'm switching from SB to WW. With the recommendation of my doctor, I'm doing WW now. I have been on it for 4 days now and I definitely think that it is something that I can live with. For me, it was much easier than SB (which I was on for 3 weeks). |

| What did you find difficult about SBD? I'm just such a sweets and carbs addict and have done WW for so long I needed more of a challenge. Or at least a change. I know WW so well and have lost 15 since January, it just seemed that I was going off plan more and more. |

Well for me, WW seems like more of a lifestyle for me. I don't like the fact that on SB it is like "no, you can't have this" and "no, you can't have that" for fear of gaining some of the weight back. I like the fact that with WW no foods are barred and you can eat all the foods that I love, but in moderation, and still lose weight.
Plus, I don't like the fact that, when on SB if you gain weight then you are supposed to put yourself back on Phase I until you lose the weight again. To me, that's just like the yo-yo dieting that I am sooo familiar with.
I just can't see myself living like that for the rest of my life. |

Hi Mlee,
I am doing both SBD and WW right now. I have been on WW for two years (this is my 4th time). This time around I have lost 30 pounds (I have 55 to lose). However, I have been on a plateau since October. I have been kicking the same two pounds around for 5 months and getting extremely frustrated to the point that I thought about giving up. But I have too much invested and I know if I quit that I will gain my weight back and then some - just like I did the other three times that I quit.
My boss told me that his doctor told him about SBD and it piqued my interest. I bought the book and figured that it would help me get past my plateau by going back to the basics. I make my food choices by following SBD, but I still count my WW points for the meals and I have gone back to journaling everything. After reading the SBD book, I realize now many of the bad habits that I turned back to which has hindered my weight loss. WW is a great program if you work it properly, and I wasn't.
I started SBD last Saturday and weighed in at WW on Thurday. By that time, my home scale showed a loss of 5 lbs and at WW it was 3 lbs (I expect there to be a difference because when I weigh myself at home, it is before eating or drinking anything and without clothes. This was my first real weight loss since October. So I was thrilled! Today marks my one week on SBD and I have lost 2 more lbs for a total of 7 - one pound per day.
I like both programs, and I have no plans of quitting WW. In fact, I am determined to reach lifetime - now more than ever. WW gives me the support I need, and most importantly -- accountability for my own eating habits. Weighing in every week keeps me on my toes. Eventually I will go back to having more freedom in my food choices that WW allows, but right now, I need to start over and that is what SBD is doing for me.
Hope this helps! |

dmys,
I think what you're doing is a WONDERFUL idea!
One good thing that SBD did for me was take away my sugar cravings. I no longer eat NEARLY as much sugar as I used to and I don't miss it! I looked at my WW food journal for the week and can't believe how well I've done. Almost all of the sugar that I've eaten (except for a couple of 1 point blueberry muffins) comes from fruit-- and that's something that I thought I could NEVER do!
Thinking about it now, I think that one of the main reasons I'm not doing SB now is because I have to have my bread, rice, and pasta and I can't stand the wheat varieties of those products.
Your post made me realize that maybe SBD isn't as bad as I thought. Thanks! |

Hi Smiles,
Thanks for the kind words. I am glad that I was able to make some sense - thought I might have been rambling on!
The way I am working it works great for me. I am keeping my points range at the minimum of 22 points per day, and I am not using any Flex Points at all. And the great thing is I don't feel hungry and I am not craving anything (especially sweets). The first day on SBD I seemed to be extra hungry, but as the week went by I have been very satisfied. I don't feel extra tired or lethargic.
The one thing that I forgot to mention, is that I have also increased my exercise and making sure that I get in all of my water. I was getting lazy with the water for awhile there. I have a 64 oz mug that I fill with water everyday. For awhile there, I wasn't even finishing half of it. Now I am finishing it all and some days refilling it. I have always believed that water is a big part of weight loss.
I know that when starting a new diet, I am gung-ho in the beginning and then start to get lax and take shortcuts. That's what had happened to me after two years on WW. I am hopeful that this combination of the two is something that I will stick with until I reach my goal and lifetime. After this week, I am only 20 pounds way!
Good luck to you!!! :D :D :D |

Hi all-
I've been doing WW for 3 years now and have dropped 180+ lbs. However, after several issues with my hypoglycemia, my doctor suggested I look at the SBD principles to help control my blood sugar levels.
I am in Phase I and things are going well. I feel more satisifed after my meal choices and I haven't "crashed". As for the weight loss, I only weigh-in once per week at my WW center, so I'll know that later in the week.
I'm going to continue WW and incorporate SBD into my plan. I know several WW members that are having the best of both worlds.
Continued success...

dmys,
i had been thinking of doing just what you did (following sbd but also
counting the points as if on ww) i've done ww for years & had success
up to a point. then i started atkins & lost 30 lbs but then got "stuck"
gaining & losing the same 10 lbs. for months. this "hybrid" idea of doing
sbd/ww seems like a logical step! thanks for the "push" in the right direction. i'm starting monday...! |

I've tried WW, but the whole counting points was too much to keep track of. I do much better with a diet that cuts certain foods or ingredients out, rather than one where you have to carry a calculator and book around.
But, I think that different diets work for different people, so there is no right or wrong diet.
Plus, I do better limiting carbs, because they are my downfall! |

absolutahnie - Thanks! I am glad that I could give you that "push"! :D For an update, I went for my second weigh in yesterday since starting SBD and lost another 3.6 lbs and hit the 35 lb mark (6.6 in two weeks)!!! Now keep in mind, that I have been bouncing around the 30 lb mark since October, so this was an absolute thrill to me to finally hit a different mark in two weeks time. Now, I hope to only hit the 35 lb mark once as opposed to the 30 lb mark which I hit about twenty times in the past five months!!
Yep, piggybacking the two plans is definitely working for me so far!!! It gives me the limitations that I need to stay on program by staying within my points range. The best news is that I only have 18 lbs to go until I can claim goal with a 55 lb weight loss!!!! I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. That's a great feeling!!!
Good luck to you!!! |

Actually I am very glad to find that there are people out there who are kind of in the same boat as I am. I have done WW on and off for more than a year, but after losing 35 pounds (of the 70 I want to lose) and then gaining 13 back over the holidays I needed some help.
I continued WW and counting points and journaling and lost 6 or 7 of my gain- but it has taken me nearly 3 months to do so!
I stopped paying for meetings- I was getting angry and frustrated and was sick of paying 40 bucks a month and not moving forward. So I joined their online program and I use that most often. Anyhow- after reading the SBD book I realized I have been piling processed junk into my body. Sure- Soup at Hand is only 2 or 3 points, but there is no nutrition.
I just started SBD on Thursday and I will admit I have had some temptations- but I can honestly say I am doing well with it. I am continuing to keep an eye on what I am eating and I try to gauge the points and not go overboard...
I think that the way SBD is layed out, you can do it as a lifestyle change. The thought of "journalling" for the rest of my life makes me feel obsessive. Many of my "high point days" were spent packing myself full of empty carbohydrates that just lead to more crazy eating. Right now I actually feel IN CONTROL of myself. It is a wonderful feeling. My cravings do not rule me. I rule them.
Good luck to all of you. I am exceedingly happy to have found this forum :) |

Hi !! I just found this forum a couple nights ago and have really found great advice here!! :)
I went to WW for 4 years- on and off. I wtarted when you counted exchanges and that was so easy for me. I never really got the points down but did lose some weight. My Dr put me on food plan because of high blood sugar and cholestoerol all of a sudden. A friend who's a nurse told me to do SBD. I have been on for 3 weeks and have lost 9 lbs. I am not craving the sweets as much and I actually am living without potatoes and pasta and bread. ( Although now that I can add some back in I found the greatest bread at Trader Joe's called Ezechial 4:9. It is made with NO flour- sprouted wheat, millet, barley and oats. Very good. I would normally have not picked it out but.... it fits the plan. ) The fruit thing is hard, but other than berries and citrus, it's loaded with sugar.
I think what you all are doing with the WW and SBD to get off the plateau is a great idea!! Hang in there. I will try that as soo as I get my system leveled off. |

I couldn't stick with Weight Watchers. I really *hated* having to keep track of everything and having to constantly think about points. I also hated having to pay someone $9 or $11 a week to tell me things I already knew! Lastly, our Weight Watchers here was completely clueless about vegetarianism - one group leader actually told me I would have to start eating fish if I didn't want to get sick. Strange advice.
Anyway, I like SBD in that I *don't* have to pay attention to portions or fat grams or whatever else. It's far easier, in my opinion, to "eat like a normal person." I don't feel deprived... it's the first time I've tried a "diet" in which I don't feel deprived ALL the time!
Anyway, I've just started and I'm still on Phase 1. We'll see how it goes, but I've lost about 7 pounds in the last 5 days. Probably a lot of water, but still - it's encouraging.
