menstrual cycle

Has anyone else had their menstrual cycle affected by this diet? I am on day 12 of phase one and my period came two weeks early. Do you think this was caused by the diet? I am on orthotricyclen so it really should be very regular, and I started this pill pack the same day I started the diet? Any thoughts?

I have no medical experience here but I agree that sounds totally unusual. I really can't see how eating different foods would affect your cycle especially since you are being regulated hormonally. Might want to ask your pharmacist. This diet isn't so off the wall to affect you like a starvation diet would be. Check it out guest. Better be safe than pregnant. Perhaps the pill strength needs to change??????

As a OB/GYN nurse, there's no physiological reason this diet would affect your period, if it happens again I would consult my physician. It may not be the pill for you. Did you happen to skip any pills? Also, have you ever considered extending your pills which means not skipping that week of inactive pills and only having a period maybe 2-3 times a year! It's great and highly recommended. Doesn't affect fertility and further decreases risks of ovarian and uterine cancer because of decreased activity of the ovary and decreased lining of the uterus. I have had my tubes tied for 3 years now and I have been very regular ever since. Within 2-3 each month, just never an issue, never any spotting or anything, when its time, its time. BUT, today I have started and I am not due to start until the 24th. It seems so odd to me. I haven't been cramping like usual, just no sign at all. It just seems so odd to me, I feel fine, I’m eating full meals and snack and exercising in the morning, but I have always done that. Now, I have never had Splenda before this diet, and that is the only thing I can think of that is different. Maybe I should call my doctor, but I am glad to know I am not alone in this!

My girlfriend experienced the same thing, after the first few days whre she had lost alot of weight rather quickly , she had gotten her period early without the warning signs usually accompanying it. She is on the pill and she is usually *Very* regular.

My periods have never been regular. Short (2-3 days), light, and usually 2ce a month. I've been on birth control pills for years, tried various things, and this seems to be the best I can get (my mom and grandmother had the same issues before giving birth).

I lost 10 pounds by my 11th day on the Beach. I'm only on the first week of my pill pack, and I seem to have started something (period, spotting?). Even when I have something 2ce a month, it's never this early - usually it's after 2 weeks and then the last week. I've also been VERY tired and groggy now for 2 days, and since I get anemic when I get my periods, I've started taking my iron supplement again (what's in my multivitamin is never enough).

I have also been reading the posts on prevention.com (I will put the address below) and evidently that has been a frequent problem with women on the pill. They aren't sure why, possibly something to do with the stored estrogen in the fat you are burning?

my period also came early. You started your diet around the 5th right??? So did I and I got my period yesterday. I know dieting effects your cycle sometimes but - there was no note of this at all in the book.

I put a call into my doctor this morning. Have any of you called your doctor yet? If so what did they say? Are you also on the pill? This happened to me once before when I started a different diet. How strange. Hope you all are losing weight though!?!?!?!

I called my doctor this morning because I am on the pill as well and after being on this diet for 4 weeks got my period while still taking the pill .. not even the 'blank' week ...

He said that with this diet or Atkins, hormonal changes are happening which can have an effect on your cycle .. he told me to continue as if nothing was wrong and when my body adjusts, I will become 'normal' again.

Also called my friend who is an OB/GYN ... (would have called him first, although since he's a friend don't usually get that personal ;) he said the same thing.

Curious to see what your doctor's say .. but I am comfortable with what I've heard so far ...

I'm so glad to see someone asked this question today because I was going to! I'm always so regular,start on the day I'm supposed to. This time I started a week early - no warning signs, no cramping! And its oddly light this time around (normally I'm VERY heavy)...I'm sure its my body readjusting because I've made changes to my life with this diet, so I just assumed that was the reason. But thank you to whoever called their Dr. They made me feel better!!!! :D

Hey, My period came early too. I am on day 12 and lost about 7 lbs. I am also an the pill so I am always on schedule. There is obviously something effecting the girls who are on the pill. Are you also very cold? My hands and feet are freezing!

I also started my period about two weeks early. I'm not on the pill or anything but I'm usually pretty regular. My friend who started the diet at the same time also had her period early. It must have something to do with the change in diet though we're not sure what.
