| is it ok to have sugar free, fat free pudding on the South Beach Diet? I am in phase one and found that there is malto-dextrin in the ingredients. Is that actually a sugar? Did I blow it? :? |

Hey! :D
To answer your question, the pudding mix is fine...but the milk you would have to use to make it is not allowed on phase 1. I think I saw a recipe on here somewhere in which someone substituted milk for water and ricotta cheese. I don't think you blew it....it took me a few days on phase 1 to get it right...I kept eating things that I thought were ok...and found out they weren't. :? I still lost weight though. Like I've told other people..before SBD you probably ate a lot less healthy...so don't beat yourself up for falling off the wagon every now and then. The people who reach their goals and maintain are the ones who just get up when they fall and keep going. Do you have the book or an acceptable foods list?? OK take care....Krissy |

Thanks Krissy,
I've got the book and guess that I just had a "brain fade". I knew that you couldn't have milk. I used non-fat. The chocolate pudding sounded sooooo much better than the mocha ricotta dessert though.
thanks for the info!!! :D
Good luck to you,

This is very similar to a question I was going to ask so I will just post it in this thread.
I have never in my life craved sweets, but now (on day 8) I can't think of anything but them. So, I too turned to the fat free, sugar free pudding with a slight difference:
I try to look how the diet works more than following it's meals and recipes to a T, from what I gather, the reason Milk is a no-no is because of the lactose (milk sugar). If you look at the GI table though whole milk has a lower GI# than skim milk (fat free) I assume from reading the book that the fat in whole milk retards the absorbtion of the sugars, where as with the fat-free milk your body is able to suck up all that lactose.
So, following this train of logic I figure if I go buy Fat-Free, Lactose-Free milk I should be fine...
This is week one and I have lost 11 lbs... and I eat ALOT ALL THE TIME. Perhaps because I am also going to the gym 6 days/week? Not sure.
If anyone knows the definitive answer about the lactose free fat free milk, please let me know... it's not like I'm drinking it, but I have been using it in the pudding (which I have every other day) and if it's a nono I'd like to cut it out too.
God Bless! |

| on the topic of milk, I heard more than once that calcium is suppose to be good for losing weight, and it was allowed (2cups) during phase 1. I am new to this and trying to piece it together. and like someone said, if you make a mistake or three...its definitely better than not trying to diet at alll....just get back on track... good luck everyone! |

| This is a very old thread. At that time, milk was not allowed on phase one. It has been updated and you are now allowed 2 cups of milk/yogurt in all phases. I think its 2-3 in phase 2 but read recently on here that its been changed back to 2 only? Anyway, you have the right idea! Good luck! (Pudding, however, is not allowed until phase 2) |

This is an extremely old thread which would have been much better off left buried. You're correct about 2 cups of milk/yogurt being a good choice in p2-- with the lactose. Lactose is a good carb.
Pudding isn't okay in p1 because of all the isolated starches, but most people are ready to handle it once they reach p2.
My FAQ answers questions like this, so please check it out! :) |
