| is anyone on this form of BC? i've been on SB for about two months and i have only lost like 10 lbs. i know depo makes you gain weight or makes it easier to gain weight, so could this be the cause of my slow loss? has anyone been in the same boat as me and lost even more weight? |

| I'd call your gyn and ask. Sorry, I'm on ortho-cyclen so I can't offer much help, however if my period is as off again this month as off as it was last month, which I think I can blame the SBD for, then I'll be calling my GYN asap |

| Apricot, I too am on DP and I was wondering the same thing. I have lost about 13 pounds in 5 weeks, I guess thats not too bad, but it seems like it is stopping. Now it could be just slowing down, and I dont notice as much. I blame a lot of the weight gain from the DP in the first place. Did you notice anything else different? As many people say their periods are off, I dont have that problem since depo stops them, but I did notice spotting as soon as I started losing weight and I was a little concerned about the effectiveness of the shot once that started occurring. I would really like to know if the SBD could curb the effectiveness of BC. |

Hi apricot, hi krissy... I have been on DP for 3 1/2 years, and did gain weight with it slowly but surely. Then I started SBD on Jan. 1st. I have lost a total of 19 lbs so far, but I had 119 lbs. to lose when I started. So I consider this a little slower than I would have liked. I have some weeks where I even gain back a pound or two, and others I lose a few. I have been spotting ever since my periods stopped, but the spotting is to varying degrees... most of the time it's almost nothing, other times slightly more. This is normal according to my gynecologist. It took my body a year and a half to adjust fully to the DP and to stop having periods all together. I was put on this drug in hopes of keeping endometriosis at bay and stop having such heavy and frequent periods. The periods are gone now, thank goodness! But yes, weight gain is a known side effect. The shot is still effective even if you are spotting; there is still a very small amount of estrogen in the body... this is the explanation I got from my dr. The SBD will not reduce the effectiveness of DP.
Hope this helps, but you might feel better if you call your doctor. Good luck! |

| are you two exercising? i wonder if i exercise lots along with this woe if i will start losing like everyone else. i have experienced spotting since i started SB. it only seems to come when i start losing, i tried regular foods for a meal and the spotting stopped but came back a day later after i continued on SB. i'm glad that this does not reduce the effectiveness of the shot but i hate gaining on it. |

Hello all. I too am on Depo. I have been working on SB since February 18th, so just over three weeks, and I've only lost about 7.5 pounds during that time - a LOT slower than I had hoped :? . I have a total of 13 pounds to lose to be at my "happy" weight - pounds that have krept on since I started the depo. I also had some spotting about a week after I started, which kind of threw me off because I've been on depo for over two years and haven't had a period during that time. I went in for an annual exam yesterday, and my doctor said it's nothing to be alarmed about - a change in diet can do that.
Apricot - exercise might help accelerate the weight loss some, but a word of advice: DON'T weigh the morning after a strenuous or weight-bearing workout. I've noticed that I gain up to two pounds the morning after and that can be discouraging. Just incorporate some exercise into your normal activities - building lean muscle will help increase your resting metabolic rate. |

| I used to be on Depo for about 6 months. It is the reason I weigh what I do. I started Depo when I weighed 150. After 6 months I weighed 185. I have worked hard and long to get to 160 and I hope SBD will help me lose the extra 50 I want to lose. I am now on Ortho-Evra and I love it. I could not remember to take a pill every day which is why I went to Depo, but I can handle changing a patch once a week. Good luck to you! I just hope that the Depo does not hinder your goals to much! |

I am also on DP and noticed its much more difficult for me to lose any weight. I actaully have gained a lot around my middle and I just cannot seem to get it to go down even a little! I am considering not getting my next shot in July and seeing if this (getting my periods back) will help me out in this situation. I will be 40 in july also. I think this may play a part in my troubles. =) I keep trying and I really watch what I eat. Its hot hot out right now so I curbed a little on excercise for the time being...

Hi everyone! I was on Depo for a few years, I have problems with regular periods as well as PMS so I stayed on for a while longer than I should have.
There was a post around here a while ago and I found some astounding information - for a lot of people, DepoProvera can cause weight gain. It actually says so on the package insert- which I always tossed without reading. Apparently it is not unusual to gain 3-4 pounds a year which is exactly what I did :(
Ive been off Depo since starting SBD and I cant swear to it, but I think being off that form of BC has helped me lose as well as I have. |

| I think I am going to experiment with it and drop the BC for 3 months. Lets see how it goes. I didnt have this weight before I started Depo. I am believing this could be the major part of the problem here. |

| I started on Depo years ago and shot up 40lbs after a few months. It was 3 years ago that I got off of the depo and I'm still really working to drop the pounds. Maybe it's my metabolism, but it's always been more fun to blame the depo. :D Sorry I'm not much help since I'm not still on it, but I will never ever go back to depo because not only did it (I think) cause me to gain extra stubborn weight, I also noticed a HUGE change in my attitude (became pretty depressed). |

I'm on Depo - guess I'm the odd one out b/c thankfully I didn't gain any weight because of it. I started it just over a year ago. 2 weeks in to SB and down 5.5, I guess that's a medium pace.
I love Depo - I had the worst periods before. They were horrendous and I would be so sick, even on the pill. My only complaint is that my arm hurts for 2 days after I get the shot. :-) (shot baby here!) |
