I know you aren't supposed to be hungry on this diet, but I've been having major hunger pains for 3 days since I started. I'm hungry all day long. I'm following the diet for the first two weeks, eating my snacks when I'm supposed to and sometimes add'l snacks since it says to eat when you are hungry. I'm drinking 80-100 oz day of water. What am I doing wrong and what snack works best on hunger? I've been having nuts, string cheese (which doesn't do much for me), turkey rollups (which work for a while) for snacks. Any advice for a newbe?

I would suggest staring a journal in the journal section so we can all see what you eat. I would also put the time you eat them down. You really may not be eating as much as you think you are, or not enough of something.

OTTOMATIC,
Thanks for the reply. It seems like I'm eating all day long. For example, it's only 1:15 now and I've had the following today already, I've been eating when I'm really hungry.
7:15 am - 2 spinach quiche cupcakes, plus 1 1/2 turkey bacon, and vegatable juice
9:00 am - hand full of nuts (was starving at 9:00 this morning)
11:30 - 2 turkey rollup (with turkey and fat free cheddar only)
12:45 - salad, (lettuce, turkey, ham, bacon bits, fat free cheese, green pepper, and cucumber).
I actually feel satisfied right this minute, but who knows how long this will last. Maybe today is a good sign and I'll have my snack, then dinner, but sometimes I'm hungry 20 minutes after dinner. Just a little frustrated at this point, but taking it day by day. |

Do you keep track of how much water you drink? Are you getting enough liquids? Sometimes hunger is really a sign of being thirsty, not hungry. I would try drinking a large glass of water next time you get hungry, and then wait 10-20 minutes. If you are still hungry, then I would eat something, but try that first.

I would try a spoon full of metamusal (sp?) before each main meal.

I would try to incorporate heavier foods. Instead of string cheese try cottage cheese. (Takes longer to eat and fills you up longer.) Try the recipe board also...people have gotten very creative! Good luck!

Yea, I totally understand...I seem to be hungry all day long too. Except, I tend to try and eat smaller things to cure me, but then I end up overeating on things like PEANUT BUTTER :? . I really wish I wouldn't feel the need to eat all of the time, and maybe I'd see better results...

I can relate too!! I also tend to over do it with nuts and pnut butter. They seems to be the only things that satisfies me. Oh well. I know this may sound stupid but try chewing sugar free gum after a meal or snack. I find that by chewing gum it keeps my mouth busy, and I am less likely to reach for more nuts.

You're only on day 3...I believe it will get better for you! :) I had a real rough first 4 days but then it got easier. Stick with it. If you are truly hungry (if you're drinking enough water it won't be thirst that is appearing like hunger) then eat something. Don't overindulge. Eat a bit, wait 20 minutes, if you are still hungry then eat a little more. You need to give your brain and stomach 20 minutes to catch up to one another and realize you've eaten. Good luck!

Day 3 was the worst day for me. I felt like I ate all day, but nothing satisfied me. I didn't know if I would be able to stay on the diet. Day 4 was much better. Also, I made chili for supper on day 4, and I only ate a small bowl, but felt more satisfied that I had all week. Because of the beans maybe?? I didn't even want dessert after. So far Day 5 is going well too. So cheer up, it seems to get better.

If you can find something to occupy your mind other than food or eating, you know how you get into deep concentration - whether it is a project or a jigsaw puzzle or some other game, that too will help. In my life, I find that if I am really concentrating on something, I often forget to eat...but on SBD, I am trying to remember to eat because gotta keep that metabolism motor running.
