| I'm on Day 3, Phase 1. Yesterday and today I'm having a Fibro flareup. Is this just a coincidence. Has anyone out there had the same problem? |

i too have fibro..
it happend to me..
any diet change can make a flare up..body will acculmate..
this in particular.. stems from a sugar/carb change supply to muscles..
work thru it.. you'll be better off all the way around in short-time.. |

Thanks!
I always try to find a cause for any flareup so that I can learn from it and hopefully prevent any future flareups. |

I too have fibro and had a flare up in phase 1. I was also getting low blood sugar symptoms so I only stayed on for 1 week. I only lost 1/2 lb on phase 1, but since I went to phase 2 I am losing 1-2 lbs weekly. I had no cravings on phase 1 and only wanted to lose 17 lbs. Once I added fruit back my symptoms subsided but I am trying to do modified Pilates and they sometimes flare the fibro. I went for a nice long stroll over the week-end and that caused a head-ache. This disease is so hard to deal with for me, because nothing shows. I look perfectly healthy. I usually soak for about 45 min in the hottest water I can stand every day, and that seems to help. Plus, Ron is really good about releasing my pressure points when I ask him. It is really a blessing because most of them are in places I can not reach. Hope you are feeling better. I really sympathize with you. Know just how you feel.

One thing I forgot to mention was that I tried a few items with Splenda in them and it caused me to retain water even tho I have been forcing liquids for years. Took me a while to figure out that I was allergic to the chlorine in it. That was something else I gave up when I went to phase 2. Anyway, I sure do wish you all the luck in the world.

Thanks Beth,
Hot soaks are a daily routine for me too. In fact I've done it twice today trying to get some relief. Thanks for the heads up on the Splenda. This could be part of the problem. I noticed last night that I was retaining a lot of water. I'll have to keep an eye on it. If things don't improve soon, maybe I'll move onto phase 2. Fibro really stinks. It's the whole reason that I need to diet. I gained 18 pounds before I had a diagnosis and I'm still trying to lose the remaining 13. Congratulations on your steady weight loss and good luck with the fibro.

A friend has fibromyalgia and has been doing an Atkin's type diet for years. She swears by it for making her feel better. I would think SBD would be similar.

I started treatment for fibromyalgia last summer (Dr Teitelbaum's protocol). I have not had a flare since last July. I feel great! In fact better than I have for over 20 years! My doctor gave me my life back! I have not noticed any flares since starting this new way of eating. I have posted on the immunesupport site about my treatment.
I like these two websites for fibro info:

I know this is an older thread, but I thought I'd post and see if anyone has any updates.
The reason I ask is because I have fibro. I've been having some really rough days since starting SB, but I don't know if I should blame the diet or something totally unrelated. It's only been a few weeks on SB for me.
Do you see the flareups going away once your body gets used to the new diet? If so, how long did it take?
Is there anything else I can do to help with the flareups? I'm not on any drugs for the fibro. All I can do is try to keep active, eat better foods, try to get quality sleep, and don't let myself get stressed.
Maybe the stress of missing my favorite "drug" chocolate is helping to make me irritable/anxious (and anxious can mean a flareup for me)... could this be possible? (I'm also feeling anxious about missing the social interaction of dinners out as well as so bored already of the food choices for Level I)
Thanks in advance for your help...

May,
Sounds like you are having some withdrawal symptoms. This can happen. I don't think the SBD helped my Fibro but the fibro treatment plan did. Of course the SBD will make you feel better and increase your energy from eating better.
You have wonderful resources for Doctors in Maryland. You may have to drive to find one but that area has some good doctors. Check out some of the fibro boards to find a doctor who will treat your fibro. NO ONE deserves to feel as bad as fibro makes you feel. There is treatment for this disease. Keep us informed on how you are doing.

Hi, Ahorsesoul
Thanks for replying. I appreciate your support. It helps alot to know I'm not the only person in the universe with these problems.
About 2 yrs ago I tried one of the best (supposedly) rheumatologists in Delaware. I waited many months for an appointment. But then when I get there he spends all of maybe 10 minutes with me. He's one of those who just sent me home with nothing more than the "take better care of yourself, keep active" speech. No PT, no drugs of any kind, no review of diet, nothing. He didn't even want to see me in a follow up.
Do you really think seeing a different one could help? Is there anything new they've found in the past few years that improves treatment for fibro? |
