Just wondering if anyone has tried this diet before. The basic principal focuses around eating specific foods depending on your blood type. I don't actually have much information available but was looking to see if anyone had any experiences with it.

Any info would be appreciated.

I read the book, but never tried the diet. I noticed that they don't allow pork, ice cream, or tomatoes for any blood type.
However, a girl a work that is type A (I think) and has irritable bowel syndrome (which the blood type diet book says goes with that type) has been on it for over a year and swears by it.

I just thought that I could never totally give up the above three items.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks for your input Ruthie. I ordered the book and I figured I'd at least give it a read and see what I thought.

It's an interesting concept. Mastering The Zone has some info about blood types, and supposedly Type A people are supposed to have the least amount of insulin issues with bad carbs. Not so for this Type A girl, so I really have to question the idea of foods based on blood type.

Hey Kim, while I haven't read the book yet, I too question the validity of the method. I think I'm a Type A as well. I've noticed that I'm not carb sensitive at all... I can cut carbs and fruits out and don't lose any more weight than I would cutting calories. I figured it was worth looking into at the very least. :)

kellis, are you not getting results with SB? Just curious as to why you're looking into another plan.

Lynda, it's not that I'm not getting results per sey. Supposedly you're supposed to lose an average of 8 pounds the first two weeks of SB. I lost four, which averages out to 2 pounds per week a totally normal amount of weight loss. Lack of results isn't why I'm asking... just simple curiousity.

I found the concept of the blood type diet intriguing and just wanted to get more information. :)

I have that book. I have both of the books actually. I'm a blood type A and I'm suppose to eat all the foods that I don't like so I couldn't stick w/ that plan. It's a very healthy life style change but if you are a A blood type good luck to you!!!!!

The 8 pounds on average is an unfortunate marketing created myth for SB. That was the results for 1 study group - but it's likely they were very overweight. Many folks who post on this forum only lose a few pounds in Phase 1.

Hi,

Yeah I tried this diet the biggest problem has got ot be the extremes. For me it basically said I had to be a vegan , as in no meat no dairy, no food. Now I actuallyw as vegan with my family for almost 6 years and we felt great the reason being we ate tons og grains, and brown rice and veggies. On the blood type it was 10 pages of off-limit foods, meanwhile other types caneat anything they want, and some only meat or only dairy.

Way too extreme I wouldnt suggest it. Also the science behind it is just plain silly. Why would evry type A have been a gatherer?! I really think it has so much more to do with nature and nurture, my mom was always heavy growing up but i ws raised with no junk so i only really had a weight problem as i got older and into all the snacks.

Moral of the story:
If it sounds too good to be true it IS!
SB isnt a diet its a way of life and what makes you your most energetic and happy is what you need to stick too!

Big congrats to everyone whos fighting the weight battle wether its 1oz or 100lbs everyone here deserves big applaus[clap here]

I had considered getting that book, but now that I hear no tomatoes, no way! I grow my own, and can them or freeze them if I get an overload. I put tomatoes into about every dish I make. However, I have read an article about pre-agricultural diets, and it made so much sense that I've started doing it. Basically, it's just upping your meat or fish intake, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, and pretty much no grains at all. It broke my stall and I'm losing weight, have more energy, and generally feel healthier. On a 1200 calorie diet, that would come out to 50% protein, (10 per cent of which comes from plants) 45% carbs in the form of allowed SBD vegetables and fruits, and 15% good fats. All the meat and fish are lean cuts. I call it "The Cavegirl's Diet."

I tried this diet for 8 weeks with a nutritional counselor.

I actually gained 3 lbs. It was very complex and made no sense. It said I couldn't eat chicken or avocado or corn. I had never had any reactions to these foods or ill effects. I was paying way too much in supplements. And in general I find more support on this board and the SB books than I ever did with the nutritionist. I had to construct the menus myself or get on e diets which repeated the same meals over and over.

It was a frustrating experience. Nothing to sugar coat here. No pun, really!
