I see the word "bump" on message boards, and I've read posts that refer to "bumping"...at the risk of sounding like an idiot, what does it mean?

It means that the reader, by posting a reply, "bumps" a buried topic into the spotlight again. When there is no need to comment they simply post a "bump".

So, it's a way to bring an old topic back up to the top, even if you aren't adding a comment. Thanks!
